So UF is my first choice college. However with my gpa only being a 3.1 as of the beginning of my senior year I know I will not get into UF. Would it be best to just go to whatever college I get accepted into and then transfer to UF a year later?
Apply and attend a Community College, get your AA and have a great GPA. That will get you into UF.
You will need your AA (at a CC) before being able to transfer to UF. A little more than 25% of the undergraduates at UF are transfer students, lots of folks do it and it can be much more affordable.
I was just going to attend another college than transfer.
Have you looked at Santa Fe Community College? I think they have a very high transfer rate to UF.
Yea I have but my parents don’t want me to go there.
UF only accepts Junior/Senior level Transfers. You will not need an AA, but you will need the 60 credits (which can include AP/DE/IB/AICE credits…)
Alright. I definitely want to transfer.
Why would I have to be eligible to attend my previous institution?
If your university kicked you out (or suspended you), UF doesn’t want you as a transfer student. Hence why you need to be in good standing.
That’d makes sense
@Soccerchic24 - you might want to contact UF admissions (casually) and ask them if there is any difference in transferring from a CC vs. a 4 year university in Florida - i.e., does one seem more favorable to UF than the other?
Why would your parents not want Santa Fe? I’ve heard really good things about it. Obviously if you can go straight to UF that’s preferable, but if transfer is the plan - to me, it seems like UF knows Santa Fe really well, and they probably have transfer seminars and cross-over with advisors.
We had this debate at our house because we live 5 minutes from FAU and Palm Beach State, so my son can dual enroll at either institution very easily. This semester he is at FAU. His FAU course is very good, I must say. But what I love about PBSC is that they work frequently with students who are shooting for a transfer.
Another option to look at is UF online - my son is dual enrolled in their Precalc, and so far we have been pleasantly surprised. But you have to be the type of student who is ok with online instruction.
I’ll look into it. And yea i’m confortable with online classes, all my classes now are online.
Good luck @Soccerchic24! I’m impressed that you’re digging in to all the options. It’s hard for me and I’m a parent!
Was hard sending your kid off to college?
Hey, I would not suggest choosing any college make the best decision for yourself and academics. Also not all community colleges are the same, so visit them. I would suggest for your parents to tour Santa Fe College, the #1 College in the nation. Perhaps they will reconsider their decision.
I’ve been to Santa Fe before
Oops, sorry @Soccerchic24 - didn’t see your #14.
No, my son is a senior in high school this year and he has been trying to work through all the options. We homeschool so I am the guidance counselor (scary LOL), administrator, English teacher, lunch room lady, uber driver, secretary, etc. . . .
My mom’s in that same situation.
It’s a blessing, even though it’s stressful!
