Transferring to Univer of Miami

Hey, I'm new here, I'd appreciate any advice you guys can give me.

I'm currently a chemical engineering major at Northeastern University
GPA: 3.0

I've been depressed here for two semesters now and things really just got out of hand this current semester. I began the semester taking a total of 17 credits and I'm gonna finish the semester with 11. I dropped one course at the beginning and dropped another (got a W) recently. I simply could not handle it, I've been struggling with some serious anxiety and depression issues which hurt my focus a lot. I've decided to transfer someplace warmer and where I more acquaintances.

I think my High School resume is relatively impressive. I'm an Eagle Scout, I played multiple instruments in my high school band, ran track for 4 years (Captain), went to states every year, tons of community service. My college resume isn't so impressive though. I'm trying to land an internship this summer so I can put that on my resume.

I'm not sure how selective Miami is. I have a bunch of friends who originally got into Miami but not Northeastern, although that doesn't mean much. Do you guys think I still have a chance of getting into Miami? I'm a good writer and I think my essay will definitely help me. I'll also be able to grab at least one good letter of recommendation.

Any thoughts? Thanks guys, I really appreciate it, just trying to move some place new and start over

why do you want to transfer - weather, academic stress, time management, homesickness?
How would UM help? Which other universities are you considering transferring into?

There’s a number of reasons I’m looking to transfer. Weather plays a big part, I love the warm weather and really don’t enjoy the cold ( I know it was a foolish decision to go to shook in the North East). I believe I’ll be able to perform better in a warmer climate. I also realized I’m not so interested in chemical engineering and more interested in biomedical engineering. UM has a really cool biomedical program that allows you to concentrate in tissue engineering and bio materials. I also have family and friends that live around the area.

Sometimes, you really don’t know how much something matters until it’s gone - old saying, but true.
However, applying ONLY to UMiami means your risks are high not to be able to transfer - would you consider applying to Rollins, UF, FSU, UCF, USF?

I understand what your saying. The only other schools I’ve considered applying to are UF and Rollins, the others don’t really interest me. But I love Miami, I should have applied there in the first place. I’m gonna be pretty devastated if I’m not accepted but I will have a backup plan in case I’m not.

I just hope my GPA and my low credit count for this semester don’t completely close the door for me. Honestly, I held a 3.6 for a good portion of my college career, it was not until these past two semesters that I started to suffer emotionally, which hurt my focus and resulted in me getting Cs in classes like Differential Equations and Calculus III.
