How hard is it to get into chemical engineering at UMinn-Twin Cities as a transfer? I am currently a freshman at a 4-year out of state public university with physics listed as my major (my school does not offer engineering). What kind of GPA do I need? How important are extracurriculars? Do recommendations and essays make an applicant more competitive? I am planning on applying after my sophomore year to hopefully attend junior year.

@marvinn…Here are the general and CSE specific transfer requirements. Keep in mind that CSE is one of the 2 most selective colleges at UMinn, and that Chem Eng is the highest ranked (and most competitive) major in CSE.

Make sure that you meet any prerequisite course requirements . I believe the CSE specific page mentions a technical GPA of 3.2, but I’d imagine you’ll want something north of that to increase your chances. Good Luck!!

Thank you very much, @Wolverine86!
