How i can get into Engineering college of University of Minnesota

Hey guys, I have been admitted by university of Minnesota and my major is undecided. Now i am interested in chemical engineering, and i would like to know the GPA requirement for me when i declare my major. also what is the average GAP in U of Minnesota? Is the competition fierce in engineering college? thanks

These would be great questions for your advisor once you get one assigned. Another place to ask about the average GPA at the university is their office of institutional research. You could ask to talk to some students in engineering at Minnesota to get a feel for the competitiveness.

Have you read this page?

[Applying for a major form : College of Science & Engineering : University of Minnesota, Twin Cities](http://cse.umn.edu/services/advising/CSE_CONTENT_188758.php)

Were you admitted to the College of Science and Engineering at UMN, or to the College of Liberal Arts? If the latter, it’s not just a matter of choosing and being admitted to the chemical engineering major. You’ll need to transfer into the College of Science and Engineering first, and that’s a competitive process. Transfer requirements and transfer admission statistics are here:

[Transfer Admission Requirements - College of Science and Engineering](http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/admissioninfo/cse.html)

thanks, i read the page and i need at least a 3.2 GPA to transfer to CSE. that is not too hard, right?

i read it, and that is really helpful. thanks

I don’t remember the exact story off the top of my head but I know the campus newspaper, The Minnesota Daily [mndaily.com] has had graphs about average GPA by school. You should be able to find the all available data on GPAs there by searching around.

it may be difficult for me to visit U of Minnesota, as i am international students. can i check the average GPA on the university website?

You could always send U of M Eng an email, if you can’t find it easily on line.

I think this is the best source on average grades at the University of Minnesota [A look at grade inflation | mndaily.com - The Minnesota Daily](A look at grade inflation – The Minnesota Daily).

i have got the average GPA online thanks

that is indeed a great resource. it says the GPA goes up in last decades and i think 3.2 is achievable in U of Minnesota
