I’m a HS senior who recently decided to attend a UT school closer to home because I didn’t feel ready to leave just yet. I plan to study computer science. However, I think I may want to transfer to UT Austin after freshmen year, and I have a few questions:
- How difficult will it be to build a social life? Will going to parties and making new friends be any harder than if I had started as a freshman?
- Where will I stay? Do non-freshmen usually stay at forms, or do they move off campus? Will I be stuck living with a freshman?
- If I plan to do Turing Scholars, will I have to make up honors classes that I did not take at my current university?
- Finally, will it take longer than the expected four years for me to graduate?
I’m currently a freshman at ACC hoping to transfer to UT next semester. I have a lot of friends who have experienced the same thing we’re going through, having transferred to UT their sophomore year.
- I can tell you for sure that you won’t have any problems building a social life, it’s what you make it. A large percentage of students at UT are transfers, you’re not alone.
- Most transfers typically live off campus in apartments, but it’s up to you where you want to live. Most people in dorms are freshman.
- I’m not sure what UT’s policy is on how they accept Turing Scholars/honors courses. I would check out their website or ask an advisor if I were you.
- And no, if all your credits transfer as planned and you stay on track you will be able to graduate in four years
Good luck!
