Transferring to UT with a W on transcript

Hey guys, I am a sophomore attending UH and i am/was deadset on applying for transfer at UT.

This semester I made the poor decision to take a junior level course designed for MCAT prep. Im now around one month in on classes and my grade in that course is, lets just say, a deep F. On top of that, I am majoring in political science and was planning on taking my political science classes alongside premedicine classes. I discovered that i truly do not enjoy biology/premedicine and a path in law or politics is something I would enjoy far more. So im considering dropping the course with a W (not a WP or WF, i dont believe they have those here)

My question is, since I know UT is one of the top public schools in the country, is having a W on my transcript going to make or break my acceptance? I think I have a pretty good GPA (3.8) and my gpa is honestly my baby, I dont want to damage it more than it already is at any costs.

thanks yall!

Having a W will be a lot better than having a D or F. A lot of undrgrads have at least one W, just don’t make a habit of it.

^ I second this. UT (more or less) only cares about your GPA.

UT does not care about W’s at all! above 2 might raise questions, but you should be good fam.

Hey thanks for your note. If you feel like it will drag down your performance in other classes, and maybe make a B, then yeah drop it. That;s why you have access to the W. Now if you did it 3-4 times, that may not look so good.
