Transferring to UVA from CC

Hello all!
I'm right now in the NVCC (Northern Virginia Community College).
I'm planning on transferring to College of Arts & Science next spring under the Guaranteed Admission Agreement.
Here are my two questions~!

1)
I noticed that in their guaranteed Admission Agreement, they require one Non- Western Perspective (3 credits) course.
I went to the "UVA's transfer Credit Analyzer" and found out that "History of Jazz"
(MUS 225; at NVCC) meets the Non-Western requirement (MUSI 212; at UVA)
Source: Transfer Credit Analyzer

I want to know if that course can also count toward the "Humanities Area Requirement"
while satisfying the Non-Western Requirement.

2)
In the Agreement, it states, "Natural Science and Mathematics (12 credits)."
Does this mean 12 credits of Science and 12 credits of Math?
Or is it 12 credits combined together?
If I take 2 Biology courses (8 credits) and Calculus I (5 credits), would that satisfy the requirement?

I know these questions are so elementary... but your help would be very nice!!!

Math and Science are twelve credits combined so taking Calculus, Biology 101, and Biology 102 would meet the requirements.

Best of luck,

Eliot

thank you , that helps a lot!

did you read GAA carefully? You can NOT apply under GAA in spring.

I actually meant I will apply next spring to be accepted as fall transfer student… haha…
Btw, can anyone answer my first question about the Non-Western requirement?

For what its worth I transferred as a second year. You don’t have to complete two years.

The NWT should also cover the Humanities course as well.

[Area Requirements — Undergraduate, College of Arts & Sciences, U.Va.](http://artsandsciences.virginia.edu/college/requirements/area/index.html)

It states that “Classes that qualify as area requirements: Cannot simultaneously meet more than two area requirements, even if cross-listed”

I would assume that “more” means you would be ok as long as it didn’t count for three different areas. Can someone confirm? It’s been awhile since I finished mine :)

I am looking to transfer in one year…can you give me some advice/guidance. How did you transfer to uva as a second year? I gave up the idea as I saw that there were way too many pre-req and credit requirements (54 credits!)

You need 24 credits to transfer. You need 54 credits if you want to transfer under the articulation agreement.

The articulation agreement shows you what will always work. Use that as your road map if you plan on applying to transfer as a 2nd year. Obviously, the most competitive transfer applicants are those who have all of their area requirements taken care of (with good grades, of course!), but we do take 2nd years, too.

Dean J, I am a sophomore at a CC in central Virginia and intend to apply to UVA in in the spring for entry next fall. I have toured UVA a number of times so I do not need to do that again but is there someone in admissions I can show my transcript to just so I can be sure I have not missed anything required under the GAA? I have gone over it many times so I feel confident I have met all the requirements. But if I did miss something I want to find out now so that I can register for any last second spring classes rather than find out after it’s too late that I was wrong about something. I would like to fax my unofficial transcript to have someone confirm I have met the requirements if it’s possible. Also, since I applied as a freshman, do I need to send my SAT/ACT scores again as well as my final high school transcript? Thank you for any help.

To all who intend to apply under the GAA and have been out of school five or more years

read:

Submits a completed application by March 1 deadline including all supplemental materials.

translate:

Make sure you submit SAT/ACT scores and do not ask for a testing waiver if you have been out school five years. Otherwise you will be disqualified from GAA and only considered for regular admission.

I didn’t find this out until April 1st and will probably be denied. I’m really suprised I wasn’t told earlier considering how many admissions counselors I’ve spoken to over the last year when there was still time to get it done.

I believe this has been covered by the transfer blog several times each year.

Testing is also listed under the requirement components on the instructions page.

2009grad - I don’t know about your school, but at mine, a UVA transfer counselor comes to visit/meet with potential transfers. I brought all my unofficial transcripts as well as a copy of the GAA and we combed through all the details in person last fall. If this is something your school does, you may want to look into that.
