Hello. I'm a freshman in the honors program at the University of Michigan Dearborn looking to transfer to the College of William and Mary next fall as a sophomore. My major is Environmental Studies, but I plan to switch to Environmental Science/Earth Science. I applied as a second-semester freshman transfer student to the College of William and Mary for spring semester and was not accepted but plan to re-apply for fall. I have a few questions, particularly regarding my standing in math since I would like to enter the Earth Sciences program at W&M.

My high school GPA is 3.9 and ACT composite is 30. I took four years of math in high school, but instead of pre-calc my senior year I took business math, which I'm now very disappointed in myself for doing. I've completed a total of 27 credit hours at U of M Dearborn through high school dual enrollment and my first full-time semester, and I have a composite GPA of 3.88. However, I have not taken any math courses because I have not been able to fit one into my schedule yet (my schedule is very limited because I live quite far from campus and commute), but I am planning to take math this semester. I tested into Math 090, Intermediate Algebra, which I realize is not what the W&M admissions committee is looking to see. I also have the option to take Math 131, Conceptual Math. My main question is, what would look better on a transfer application (or the least troublesome): Intermediate Algebra or Conceptual Math? Or would Introduction to Statistics be a good choice? And if I do very well in whichever one I choose to take, would it still be a major concern to the admissions staff because I haven't taken upper-level math?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated; thanks.
