Transferring to William and Mary

Please only give honest advice and opinions.

HighSchool GPA: 3.1 (poor Freshman and Soph. year grades due to family health issues)
Lots of EC's (sports and theatre)
400+ hours of community service
low SAT scores unfortunately

Current College GPA: 3.9
member of model UN and rotary international
intercollegiate sports team member

I'm also planning on taking 18 hours next Semester as well as summer courses. I have a lot experience traveling to different countries and am almost fluent in French.

Will being an in-state resident and a legacy improve my chances?? Also, should I write a letter to the college explaining my low high school stats? I'm currently at a large state school in Ohio and just really need to transfer somewhere smaller. William and Mary has always been my dream school but I knew I'd have no chance of acceptance right out of highschool. Please give me your advice and opinions!! Thanks!!

I’m no expert in the field of college admissions, but maybe you could make the reason why you did poorly in the first two years of high school the topic of one of your essays? Best of luck!
