So, I have already talked to Yale’s admissions officers at least 100 times. Basically, I had like a 2.0 in high school. I was constantly on a business venture, my parents died, and I was struggling with my sexual identity in a conservative town.
That is my back story, however I have been at a community college now for 3 semesters. (Summer, fall, spring) I am wanting to transfer to Yale. I have visited the campus a dozen times and love it there. I am planning to retake my SAT’s and stuff but I was wondering if there is anyone out there who successfully transferred to Yale? Maybe not a community college but just in general.
My goal is to be in politics, and who knows maybe run for President. I don’t have a lot of “Community Service” per say but I do go to my local jail a few times a week and talk to the guys about my life and how I have overcome my failures. I have done this for 3 years now. This is just something that has been important to me. (My parents were always in jail. This is why I have that connection with the guys who are there)
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Also, I have a 4.0 in my community college, and honors classes. I maxed out my colleges curriculum in two semesters.
I looked it up, and the transfer rate is ~3%. It’s going to be nearly impossible. I wish you the best of luck, though, your story is compelling, and it would be great if you got accepted.
Apply to other schools as well, though.
Make sure your essays are stellar. Write and rewrite them many times, ask for feedback from excellent writers, counselors, etc.

Again, best of luck!
Please don’t be one of those pests that the admissions office has to endure, that is not in your favor. If you ‘maxed out’ your curriculum in 2 semesters what are you doing there the third one? Yale is just one of those colleges who basically barely take transfers. Some of the admitted transfers are recruited athletes, like the new quarterback in '12 and the recent wide receiver from NC state this year. The 25 or so who get in every year often come from similar high level schools and need some particular resource at Yale to satisfy a particular academic ambition. What you need to do is show a high level of intellectual and community engagement. Then, now that you know you will apply, spend your energy finding colleges you have a more realistic chance of acceptance so you don’t come up empty handed.
“We simply try to pick the students whom we think will … be best prepared to engage all of Yale’s resources,”
Coming from institutions ranging from military academies to small liberal arts colleges to large state schools… All transfers agreed they wanted to come to Yale for specific educational opportunities such as science research and, more broadly, an “intellectually challenging” environment.
Transfer schools mentioned: Vanderbilt, Colorado College, UCLA, Naval Academy, Emory, Yeshiva

How long have you been out of high school? If it has been longer than 5 years, you should look into the Eli Whitney Students Program http://admissions.yale.edu/eli-whitney
