I was reading through the Yale transfer site that "Yale does give special consideration to those transfer candidates with community college experience or military service."

Does this mean that Yale likes transfers from community colleges?

I'm only guessing: I think they put that in to not scare away the few magnificent candidates out there who are currently in community college or in the military but would be a great asset at Yale. That being said, the admit rate for transfers is near infinitesimal. Based on the # of open slots, it's around the 3-4% range.

I believe there were two College Confidential posters last year who transferred from community colleges. I know there was at least one. If you're a cc student who's thinking of transferring, you might want to find them and PM them.

Yeah...I've heard that the admission rate for transfers is pretty low. I think I read that from a couple thousand applicants, they accept only around 20-30 students. I was considering still giving it a go though. I'll most probably apply for Fall 2010 though, not 2009 so I have some time....

I know they have that at UVA though. If you go to a local community college for two years (in the Virginia area) your pretty much guaranteed a slot in, depending on how well you did of course. It's most probably not the case though for Yale.

My D is a fall 2008 transfer and I recently asked her about the make up of the transfer class this year. One of her comments was that there are NO CC transfers this year, although she knows one who transferred in 2007.

I'm not currently in a community college. I actually go to a specialized art school in New York City but I've found that throughout the semester, and living in the city in general, that art isn't something that I want to pursue in the future. I went to a high school pretty strong in it's academics, and I guess that is what I really miss. I'm planning to transfer for the spring semester to a school closer to home and I wasn't sure if I should pay more and go to a regular state school, or save money and go to a community college. I plan on transferring in a year or two after that to another more prestigous school and I know how expensive Yale and some other schools may be that I'll be hopefully applying too....
