I am interested in transferring to UofM- Ann Arbor in the Fall of 2013. I will be attending Bowling Green for the Fall of 2012 and the Spring of 2013. I will be working very hard to receive a 4.0 because my high school GPA is low (2.5) and my ACT was only a 21.

How early should I apply & what are my chances of getting in to UofM if I do receive a 4.0 both semesters at Bowling Green (although I messed up in high school)?

I don’t know how it works in your state, but I figure it works like this everywhere. If you transfer after only one year at your CC, then they will still look at your high school grades and test scores. If you have two years worth of work, they will focus solely on that. Outside of that (aka privates), they might also look at your test scores and high school transcripts.

^That sucks. From the requirements I have read in some NYC schools that I want to transfer to, it says 24 credits and up, they don’t look at your HS transcript, only your college trans. 23 and below, you can still transfer but they’ll look at your HS transcript.

In your case, you likely won’t have much of a chance at all. When you apply for Fall 2013, you will only have 1 semester worth of college grades to show that you’ve drastically improved. Michigan won’t see your Winter/Spring semester grades when they evaluate you. Your earliest date of having a legitimate chance is Winter 2014, after 2 semesters of college grades if not Fall 2014 because of your weak high school performance. For transfers, UM only really cares about GPA and credits so if you can make sure you’ll have around 60 credits by the beginning of your junior year and have at least a 3.7, you should be fine. Good luck.
