I did bad at the first CCC I went to. Now I’ve got good grades and want to apply to transfer this Fall. The problem is, I still have to make up for a D and an F I received at my first school. I won’t be able to do this until the Fall, the time I apply to transfer. Because of the two bad grades, my combined GPA is a 3.1. If I were to ace the courses, it would be a 3.5!
Would CSU’s/UC’s automatically throw out my app because of the D and F? Or would they wait until Fall grades are sent out to see my retake and higher gpa?
Bump
@Gumbymom knows everything about UCs/CSUs there is to know, but I recommend re-taking them because it shows that you’re atoning for your mistakes. In addition to replacing the grade which is good. Why can’t you retake them during the summer?
How many years since you were at the first CCC? They will not throw out your application as long as you are repeating the courses.
I would retake the courses if possible by summer, but if you can only take them Fall semester, you would indicate on your CSU/UC application that they are in-progress for Fall.
For the UC’s, you would then update your application (TAU) when you get your Fall grades and these grades will be used in your UC Transfer GPA.
For the CSU’s, you will report your in-progress Fall courses and after submitting your initial application the CSU’s will ask for your Fall semester transcripts to confirm that you have passed your courses.
@Gumbymom I was dismissed after Spring 2016 so not so long. I’m going to try my best to appeal to let me in for the summer, but if I do I’ll only be able to take the D grade class because that’s all they’ll offer.
So I still list the grades but add them as in progress as well?
@philbegas I was dismissed after Spring 2016. You have to sit out two semesters before coming back.
I feel like you’d have a better chance of admissions if you’re back for a couple semesters before applying. But that’s based on nothing really
Yes you would report your D and F and then put for Fall 2017 that the repeat courses are in progress. Once you have your repeat grades, you would update the UC application (TAU).
Forgot to state that some Cal States will have a supplemental application similar to the TAU which allows you to update your Fall grades, but again you report your D and F grades and then put in-progress for repeat courses. If there is a supplemental, you would fill this out and submit once you have your Fall grades and for other CSU’s, you would submit your updated transcripts. There will be a “to do list” under your application status which will tell you what documents to submit.
@philbegas yes that’s what I was thinking as well but I cannot stay where I am right now for another year. I’m hoping the upward trend and good essays for the UC’s will help my chances.
@Gumbymom thank you so much for this info, it’s really helpful!
@Gumbymom one more question. My GPA at the college I was dismissed from is in the 1’s. I know you need a 2.5 to even apply, so would I not be eligible? Or would my new schools GPA just merge with the old one?
@yasmine2j: I will also give you this link which has the UC transfer GPA admit range by major and UC campus. This may help you formulate a reasonable transfer list. Too bad the CSU’s do not have this…
