Hi guys, I’m getting a dog this spring and I was wondering if any of the UC’s offer transfer housing that accommodates pets? I want to go to UCLA or UCSD (or SDSU) and I feel like San Diego wouldn’t be too difficult to find non-university housing that would be ok with a dog but that it would be more difficult in LA to find a dog friendly place.
Thoughts? Experiences? Suggestions?
look up apartments in Westwood and see if they’re pet friendly. The dorms most definitely are not.
Should you really get a dog when you’re going to be a full-time student with an outside life? I would really really rethink that. The next few years you may be moving a lot, depending o jobs, etc. Maybe get a cat.
At UCLA, no dorm or university apartments take pets - unless they are service animals. When you do find apartments that are pet friendly, you will likely have to pay an additional pet deposit - sometimes $500-$1000 extra, and sometimes even additional rent for pets.
Good luck. I have a cat and the housing that does allow pets requires it to be a service animal, which I obviously can’t do. You can probably do it for your dog, but like @lindyk8 said, this is probably not a good time to get a dog.
