I will have 69 Credits after this Fall 2012 semester. After I transfer, I think I've read that I would need atleast 12 credit hours from TTU before a "transfer" student can start taking "upper division" classes.

My major will be petroleum engineering. I'm not really sure what is considered upper and lower? I have taken Physics I-II, Cal I-II, Chem I-II, and possibly all the cores.

What would differential equation be considered as? I do not have much classes left to meet the 12 credits hours.

From what I get from a counselor that I had spoken with is that students who are accepted in Rawls or Whitacre, provided they have assured admission, are placed in the lower level curriculum. This means that they are in the college but lack a specific major. I settled on Rawls and currently my status shows I am accepted in the business school but “COBA” is placed as my major. Apparently, it is not until after transfers complete 12 hours at Tech will they can officially select a major. I guess they want to see if the students are ready for university level work before allowing them to dive right in one of their more notable schools are majors.

I received an email from a texas tech advisor yesterday, they told me the 3000s and the 4000s are the upper level class. So transfer students have to take 1000s and 2000s (12 credit hours) before taking upper level.

@Schleissen I’m going to apply for Summer '13 because I still have Cal III still to do for Spring '13 at my CC. I want to finish the 12 credit in Summer and start right away at Upper level for Fall 2013.
My 1st school of choice is really Texas A&M but dont think I’ll get admitted.

I definitely understand. I am heading there Spring 2013.

Haha, I actually was going to Texas A&M. However, I was on Blinn TEAM and I’ve gained so many hours that I will not be able to get in the business school since there is a cap on the number of hours one may come in with. It was a late decision on my part to turn to business. At first, I was an International Studies in Commerce major, but I wanted something a bit more practical and wouldn’t necessary have me working with the government most of the time. So, I decided to go to Tech and double major with Economics and Finance.

I do hope you can get in your first choice; A&M is definitely a terrific school filled with great people. As you probably know since that is your first choice, A&M is well-known for its engineering program, so Tech should understand. Tech is still a good school and all, don’t get me wrong to whoever is reading this. But anyways, I wish you much luck!

I’m a first generation college student so I don’t really have sources in my family. TAMU application window for FALL 2013 starts in Jan '13.

Deadline for Tech Summer '13 is March '13, if I apply to Tech and got accepted, does that mean I have to attend there? Or is there like a certain time I have to make a decision?

Scenario: I might be “accepted” at Tech before I get a response from TAMU Fall semester.

Since I’ve seen threads like “have any transfer heard back?, etc” and some take 4 weeks.

Not at all, applying to any university doesn’t mean that you have to go. However, there might be a certain date to accept your admission offer, but since we’re transferring, I don’t believe that will be necessary. You will just have to make sure that you go to the Orientations because it is required for incoming students. But yeah, you can definitely wait for A&M.

I really hope that it works out for you and btw, I apologize for such a late response. Take care!

Be careful if you are a community college transfer student. Tech only allows 66 transfer hours to be applied to your degree. Why they allow more lower division credit from four-year transfers, I don’t know. West Texas A&M University up the road doesn’t limit it to 66 from cc transfers.
