Transfers???

I know this is going to sound absolutely crazy but college park was my number 1 choice and I was rejected early action (I know it was my 1030/1600 SAT). But I am already considering transferring for the spring semester or my sophomore year, which is crazy. I just have a few questions.

What is the retention rate for UMD?

Would it be possible to transfer for the spring semester or my sophomore year?

Are transfers put in dorms?

If I got a scholarship from an organization for one school, will the money transfer?

As of 2011, the University of Maryland had 95% freshman retention rate, which is quite good.

To my knowledge it is very hard, if not impossible, to transfer in as freshman in the spring. If they do accept you in this case, it would be because you had exceptional high school stats (GPA/SAT). In your situation you would best be served trying to apply for fall or spring semester of your sophomore year.

It is hard to be placed in dorms as a transfer student. It is on a space-available basis. Transfer students have the least priority in terms of on campus housing. That being said it is definitely possible to live in the dorms.

The money will not transfer if it is a scholarship from another University, obviously. If you have some special scholarship that wasn’t dependent on which University you attended, than it probably would but I would call to confirm.

If you transfer, START THE APPLICATION WHEN IT OPENS and sent it in ASAP. Then, if and when you get accepted. submit your housing application FIRST THING. Housing for the transfers is first come first serve. The first transfers to apply for housing are the first to get it when they find out in April how many spots they have. you will then be told you are guaranteed or not guaranteed housing but won’t get your assignment until July.
