UVA requires SATs, high school grades, and college grades. There's more here in the [url="<a href="http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/pdf/2007Application2.pdf%22%5Dapplication.%5B/url">http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/pdf/2007Application2.pdf"]application.[/url</a>]</p>

i see. umm there are several personal questions on the application for transfers.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Please answer these questions on separate sheets of paper.
1. Why are you leaving your current college? Why are you applying to the
University of Virginia?
2. What are your educational or career goals, and how do they relate to your
planned course of study?
• If you are applying to the College of Arts & Sciences and are undecided
about your major, indicate your general area of interest.
• If you are applying to the Architecture, Commerce, Education,
Engineering, or Nursing schools, tell us why you have chosen this field
and what experiences (work, internships, etc.) have prepared you for it.
• If you are applying to the Five-Year Teacher Education Program, indicate
your academic major within the College of Arts & Sciences and
your intended teaching area (e.g., elementary education, secondary education).
3. If you have participated in activities or received awards that are meaningful
to you, list them.
4. Since you graduated from high school, have there been periods of time
(other than summer vacations) when you were not enrolled in college?
Do you plan to spend the Spring 2007 term away from your current college
or university? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, please
describe, in chronological order, your activities or employment during
these periods.
5. Have you been employed during the school year? If so, please state the
nature of your job, the number of hours per week you have worked, and
your reasons for working.
6. Is there anything we should know about you that has not been covered
in these questions?
7. Answer one of the following essay questions. Limit your response to one
a. What is your favorite natural phenomenon, and why?
b. If you could have dinner with three people, living or dead or fictional,
who would they be and why would you select them?
c. What is your favorite book and how has it impacted your life?

how should i answer these questions. are they supposed to be short? the first one is the standard why i want to tranfer but some of the others dont apply to me. but should i have a standard 600-700 essay for the first question. plz help any answers will be much appreicated.

all of the questions are about 250 words (mainly a paragraph or half a page), except #7. Question 7 is basically the 1-2 page essay thats the standard 500-600 worded essay.

are you sure? how do you know, number one also sounds like a 500-600 word essay. theres no verification of your claim. the application doesnt say anything.

According to Dean J, a UVA admission dean, 1-6 are personal statements which should just be half a page long each.

I think you'd want to write a few paragraphs for questions 1 and 2. Questions 3, 4, 5, and 6 could be simple answers (No, there has never been a time when I was not enrolled in school.) or long ones (After high school, I went to South Africa to...). The last question should be a formal essay, but I wouldn't make it more than a page.
