Major: Economics
GPA: 3.89
Im a transfer student coming from community college. I’ve done really well in cc, but i never felt extremely challenged. I’ve been admitted to both UCSD Cal SLO for economics. I recently toured UCSD and loved the campus, but im afraid of not fitting in and not being able to compete with the other students in my major. Though i haven’t yet toured Cal Poly (doing so next week), i feel it’d be a better fit for my personality. I have about 3 weeks to decide if id rather go to UCSD.
Any thoughts?
mustangortritan,
These are one of the three famous transfer myths!!
Do you remember?..
How your elementary school teacher stressed the importance of learning cursive because “You won’t survive middle-school without knowing it?”
How your middle school teacher taught you that you had to write really fast and keep organized notes because “You wouldn’t survive high school without it?”
How your high school peers emphasized, “You should learn to pull all-nighters because you won’t survive college without the ability to study all night.”
Yes, going to UCSD will be harder than community college or high school. Don’t listen to people trying to scare you from going on to the next step of your education. You were accepted into UCSD, you earned it. Don’t underestimate yourself because you think that doing well in community college won’t translate into your success at a university. I promise that you will surprise yourself!!
OP it might interest you to know that most CCCs don’t challenge ppl much. And you know what? UC studies have shown the GPAs of transfers stay pretty much the same, maybe down one point. The hardest part with most of the UCs is (truly) getting in. I think you will do fine. Don’t psych yourself out.
However cal poly is a very cool school. Every person that goes there loves it. And it is a little harder to meet ppl and have a social life at SD. Not impossible, but it might take a bit longer.
@splatis self promotion of your business is not allowed on CC.
