Transitioning to Hopkins / Summer Programs

Hi all  I was just admitted to the Freshman class for the fall of 2015 and am so excited to be considering Hopkins!

I was wondering if anyone has experience with taking summer courses at Hopkins? I was thinking that could be a good way for me to transition to life on campus and in Baltimore (from Los Angeles so it’s gonna be a big transition haha) while also getting some credits out of the way and adjusting to the rigor of college courses.

  • Do you think this would be a good program for adjusting to life on campus?
  • Is there support in terms of activities and adjusting to the campus or is it very independent and perhaps not the best option for a student hoping to meet people and have some help in joining the hopkins community etc.?
  • If it isn't ideal, is there a different program you would suggest beyond orientation?

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide

-First, Congrats. Hope you enjoy your college career at Hopkins
I suggest you to spend your summer with a family. The whole reason we have covered grade in first semester is to help you transition to Hopkins.
There are many programs which are useful to help you adjust, so you should look over academic advising website on what kinds of services they offer.
There’s always student activities going on throughout the semester. It really depends on how you interact with the community. If you decide to stay in your dorm all day, it’s obvious that you won’t be able to meet people.
You will receive more information during orientation. Just sit back and enjoy your HS senior year.
