is there any way to get to rpi without taking a long drive

Amtrak rail, Greyhound bus, or air to Albany. There is a shuttle bus that runs between the rail station, bus depot, airport and RPI.

You could take a long walk...or swim up the Hudson...or fly in a small plane. Or you could go online and do a virtual tour of campus and in a way you are at rpi.
Kidding...just take the Amtrak it's really easy

From the Greyhound terminal or Amtrak station, you can either take a taxi or public bus (<a href="http://cdta.org/riding_maps_service_areas.php%5B/url%5D">http://cdta.org/riding_maps_service_areas.php</a>)</p>

If you're going to do much travelling on Amtrak, it pays to buy a Student Advantage card for $25. It provides a 15 percent discount on Amtrak, along with other miscellaneous discounts. But after one or two roundtrips, it can pay for itself.

Amtrak is definitely the best way to get to Albany, although sometimes the airlines also have supersaver rates for weekends where you can get there to Albany for a reasonable fare. The airport is only 15 minutes away from the school.
