Transportation from USMMA to Macarthur Airport

Please tell me the best way for my Plebe to get to and from Macarthur Airport for a Southwest Airlines flight. What type of service might be available.

Thank you!

This is from the McArthur Airport website. It looks like the airport is about 40 miles from KP. Laguardia and JFK are a lot closer and easier for your child to catch a flight from, because usually the Mids all team up together to catch a taxi and it ends up being cheaper!

Shuttle service between MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma train station:
Colonial Transportation of Long Island (631-589-3500) now offers convenient shuttle service between MacArthur Airport and the Ronkonkoma train station (LIRR). The shuttle van departs the train station daily at 5:30am, then departs the airport on the hour and half-hour from 6:00am until 10:30pm. Curbside pick up at the airport is directly in front of baggage claim. The shuttle will pick up and drop off at the North Platform of the Ronkonkoma train station. The one-way fare is $5.00 per person. Cash and credit cards are accepted. All rates are subject to change without notice.

that is not the way to go...
that way will take hours upon hours to get there, cause you'd go into penn first, then have to find another train, etc... truth be told, he needs to find someone with a car that will bring him. be it an upperclassman or his mentor/sponsor family. if he takes a cab it'll cost close to $100 he'd be better off finding someone and giving them $20 for gas.... i've done it before... he's just going to have to start asking people ASAP.

Our son has flown in and out of MacArthur (or ISLP) several times. It is the only option if you want to fly Southwest, and when you fly from Idaho your options are limited. We have always arranged for a Friendly's cab to take him, and to meet him on the return flight. Yes, it costs about $100 each way--but if you are using free Southwest vouchers, as we usually are, it is still far less expensive than the flights we are able to get in and out of LaGuardia. I believe he has, on occasion, been able to share a cab with someone. Asking for a ride to the airport usually doesn't work out well; in order to meet the requirements of the Academy, he has to wait and fly out on Saturday and he must get back on a Saturday if Sunday is the deadline. Also, the flights are usually 7:00 a.m. or so departures, and 11:00 pm arrivals, so it would be a pretty big favor to ask.

The other option is to check with the NY sponsor families. I'm sure there would be someone who would taxi your kid to the airport. The sponsor families are great and really help all of us out alot when kids can't come home. You should check with the office about that.

Another option is a cab to the New Hyde Park train station and get on the Port Jefferson Train till Hicksville and get off. Then trainsfer to the Ronkonkoma train to Ronkonkoma and take the shuttle service.
