My son is a freshman and we live in N.Y. I havent booked his flight home yet for Thanksgiving. Do most of the out of state students fly out of the Orlando airport or the Jacksonville airport? Also, how do the students get to the airport? The school gave me a company called Runways transportation but it appears that they are out of business.

I don’t know which airport he should use, though I’ve heard more about the Orlando one, so I assume it’s used more.

You can use a taxi to get to the airport, rent a car, or use a ZipCar. I personally suggest zipcar. They’re pretty cool, and offer a good deal. Here’s the website for it.

[University of Florida – Zipcar](University of Florida Student Car Share & Rental | Zipcar at UF)

Gotta second the ZipCar recommendation!

I, and everyone else I know, always flies out of Tampa intl. Also, believe it or not, our own little airport here in the 'Ville flies out to NY. Not sure whereabouts you live but [check to see if any flights go to your area](http://gra-gnv.com).

Have several family members at UF and when they fly back to LGA, JFK or EWR, they can connect via Gainesville to MCO, JAX, or TPA then connect out from there. If you are seeking to save money, then have him take the RED COACH bus from school campus to one of the major airport. Flying out of Orlando may be the best way in my opinion as there are no direct flights from Gainesville to Manhattan. For about $ 425 round trip he can connect out of Gainesville into LGA and save alot of driving. Good Luck !

And if he does the connection flight out of Gainesville there’s an RTS route that goes from campus straight to the Gainesville airport and that would be free :)
