transportation to albany, ny

how long does it take to get to albany, is it easy to do and how? i know most students stay on campus, there's a lot to do... but i would need to go to albany perhaps every weekend. would this be possible and how would i go about this?

I don't know if you're still seeking this information, but this thread includes some helpful links and information. It takes approximately an hour to get to Albany.

If you really need to go to Albany every weekend, it would probably be most convenient to bring a car with you. I haven't investigated the rules for having cars on campus, because it's not something my son is considering.

anymore ideas? would i be fine getting a ride to albany becuz i don't think freshmen are allowed to have cars at williams

FG13, perhaps some more questions are appropriate. As a freshman will you have the time to spend every weekend in Albany? Unless you are able to spend the weekend at the library in Albany, then I believe the answer is no.

The limo/shutle service I believe is $80 and $50 dollars respectively.

I haven't heard of a bus, but you can check that out.

When you speak of getting a ride, I haven't heard of anyone going to Albany every weekend.

Williams is not a "suitcase" school and kids stay on campus for the weekends.

You would miss a lot of bonding time if you left every weekend.

i wasn't looking to leave every weekend. rather, for personal reasons, i would probably need to go to albany every friday evening.

Realistically, the only feasible way to go to Albany every Friday night is to have your own car or to be prepared to spend a fortune on taxi/limo fares.

Note that there will come a day in November, Dec, Jan, Feb, or March when it is snowing too hard to make driving to Albany sensible. Once it quits snowing, the major roads are cleared almost immediately, but driving in the mountains of New England can be treachearous enough in the middle of snowstorm that you would only do it if absolutely necessary.

There are several Zipcar vehicles on campus. Unlike rental cars, you don't have to be 24/25 to use them.

what are the rates on these 'zipcars'?

Here's the info on Williams ZipCar. This might be a very good option for you:
