Transportation to PHL

I am leaving next Saturday out of Philadelphia airport and have a few questions. The Dinky doesn't run early enough for me to catch an 11 AM flight so I am going to catch the train from Princeton Junction. Are there cabs usually hanging out in the Dinky area on a Saturday morning or do I need to call one? Can I buy my train ticket the night before at the Princeton station? Do you think there are enough students going to PHL next Saturday that a group of students can share a ride to the airport? Would I find that info on TigerTrade or some other venue? Thanks in advance.

There are usually cabs around then, yeah. They’re usually black cars that look like old Lincolns (not the typical yellow ones you see). You don’t need to buy a train ticket the day before - there are little ticket machines at Princeton Junction. And do you mean you’re looking for other students to share a cab to PHL? You should try putting it as your status on facebook lol, not sure if you can find that on any of our sites (maybe point? But it looks like point is down for now).

Thanks for your response. Do you think most students going to Philadelphia airport on Fall break use the Olympic Airporter service that is linked to on the Princeton website?

I heard Olympic Airporter is more direct, and train is faster … D took the Olympic Airporter between EWR and Princeton during a summer program, S will do the Dinky train for the first time this coming Saturday for EWR…

Have a safe trip home everyone!

For Princeton to EWR, the train is best; for Princeton to PHL, the Olympic Airporter is a lot faster than the trains.

Princeton to Philly is tricky. You do Princeton Junction –> Trenton, then by a septa ticket from Princeton–> Philly Septa 30th st station, then there’s a airtrain or something similar that takes you from that station to the airport. But Southwest flies into Philly and Southwest has fantastic deals sometimes.

^Yes, but word is that SWA is picking up some Newark gates next year as a result of Continental’s merger with I don’t remember which airline. So look for Southwest Newark flights starting in March or so.

Southwest will begin having flights to Newark this spring/summer according to a friend of mine who is a Southwest pilot. It is apparently a lot easier to travel by train to Newark airport rather than to Philadelphia airport.

That’s true for sure. Going to Newark Airport from Princeton Junction requires one NJ Transit train, and 10 or fewer stops. It takes about an hour, counting the Dinky. Philadelphia Airport isn’t much farther, but you have to take one NJ Transit train and two SEPTA trains, and go through many more stops. The NJT train and the first SEPTA train at least have their schedules coordinated, but that breaks down sometimes if the NJT train runs late. The whole thing takes at least 2-2.5 hours, and if you wanted to be absolutely safe you might budget three hours or more.
