and also do you know how to do it?.....It seems the airfare from houston to Phila is almost half.

you can take the train i think. the train station is right on the edge of campus. by car, its less than an hour. taxi would be around $45 maybe?

^ thanks....and also is it a safe train ride?

how about to New York?

Simba- you would have to take the el (local train) from the airport to the train station downtown. It is easy to do. The train to Princeton leaves from the downtown station (not sure if it is 30th street or 15th street station). The train to Princeton is safe.

You can take the SEPTA and transfer at Trenton for the NJTransit train to Princeton. The downtown SEPTA station is at 30th street. It's about an hour's ride.

Train to Philly is roughly the same price as to NYC (check transit website for exact price, I don't recall). However, it can take up to two hours depending on where you are trying to go and how you hit the connections. If you know somebody with a car, or have one, that's a better way. Still do-able; I've used it a couple times.

lithoglyphic and zantedeschia, thanks. But, is the ride a safe ride?

NJ Transit is very safe. I would expect SEPTA to be the same. I don't see why they would not be safe...

Well seeing as how I ride the NYC subway everday (and just found out on yesterday's news that there have been 600 robberies on it since January) I can't imagine how any train compared to the subway could be unsafe.
But seriously, yes I think it's safe but go with a friend or two anyway.

I haven't had any problems, or felt like I might have any problems. The ride to NYC is perhaps safer than the ride to Philly, since staying on the train is arguably safer than platforms, and the latter route has more transfers. But that's just an analytical judgment -- I think both are totally fine, and I've taken them at all hours.

You need to get from the airport to 3oth street station, which is the main Philly Station. It used to be that the easiest/fastest, and not too expensive way to do it was by cab.

From 30th street station you get on the proper train headin to NYC, and get off at Princeton Junction. (this is a place about 3 miles from the University Station, just east of RT 1 (US1)). There's nothing in PRinceton junction but a parking lot, and the end of the "spur" line that takes you to Princeton. The Spur is now called the "dinky", I believe. It used to be called the PJ&B. (Princeton Junction and Back).

The station at Princeton is next to McCarter theater and accross the tennis courts from the underclassmen dorms, although the courts are being razed and new dorms being built. About the farthest you could live away from the station would be a half a mile, or a ten minute walk. The closest you could get would be about a quarter mile.

The train ride along the Phila NYC corridor is as safe as they'll get, in my opinion. Phila-NY business travelers choose the train over driving often, and almost always over flying, since its too close to make sense to fly.

once you get to the princeton junction station, you can take the "dinky" that goes right to the campus... as dadx said. and make sure to go to McCarter theater, it's awesome! acts like wynton marsalis, arturo sandoval, the bad plus, john faddis...it's big time, i'm sad to be leaving.
