I’m applying next fall to UofW, but my significant other will be going to U of Puget Sound in Tacoma. In the chance that I get in to Washington, does anyone know how to travel from Seattle to Tacoma without paying the fees for being under 25 and renting a car? I would like to see him on the weekends, but both schools, Washington and Puget Sound, have limitations on overnight visits, so hotels will need to be paid for if we want a weekend together. Money has to be saved for the hotel room, so there will be limited money for a car. Does anyone know of any options other than a 2-3 hour public transport option?
There should be some ridesharing resources at each uni. You can get on listservs or whatever has replaces that. There is craigslist too. No doubt if you are looking, then you will find others who regularly make that relatively short ride and can give them gas money.
You can ride public transportation. There is a Sounder train that runs between Seattle and Tacoma. You’ll need to look up the bus schedules in Seattle and Tacoma for connections to the Sounder. Eventually the Link light rail will go from the UW to the Sounder but I’m not sure when that will be completed.
I would stick to the bus or grab a ride with someone you know well. It’s not wise to use Craigslist between Seattle and Tacoma. The Sounder train runs limited schedules between the two cities but is a good option if the times works for you. You crack me up with talk about hotels. ‘Affordable’ hotels in Tacoma and Seattle might not be all that romantic haha
