My gf is going to UCLA. Is there a possible way (shuttle, amtrak, etc.) to get to UCLA from UCI? I don't have a car :/

there is amtrak station in Irvine that goes to LA.

I’ll be making frequent visits (once in 2 weeks at least).
How much would I be spending?

One possibility is taking the Metrolink from Tustin to Union Station and then either a bus or the Red line and a bus to UCLA. That’s 2-3 hours and around ten bucks one way.
On weekdays there’s a free afternoon shuttle from UCI to Tustin Station. Also Tustin is close enough (about 20 minutes) you’d likely be able to get a ride from a friend with a car. There’s also a direct shuttle from Tustin to UCI on weekday mornings.

Another possibility is catching a ride with carpool/vanpool commuters (from campus or the Medical Center.) It could be more efficient and cost less.

There is a shuttle bus that goes from Westwood to the Union Station downtown. I think it’s ~$5 one way.

thank you guys!!

bluebayou, Where would you get that shuttle bus? How would I recognize it? I have a freshman at UCI and first year graduate student at UCLA. I will be coming (from Chicago) with my DS for orientation in July and want to show him how to get to his sister’s place in Weyburn Terrace (UCLA graduate housing). Looks like Tustin metrolink to Union station and then the shuttle you are talking about would be the best way to go. (Weyburn Terrace is in Westwood.)

UCI had to cut the bus subsidy, so the trip to the Tustin Metrolink station is no longer free. The fare is $1.50 (exact change) from campus to the Metrolink, but the return will still be free with a validated Metrolink ticket.

UCI students who ride Orange County buses frequently can still get their ID cards validated as a U-pass, but now it costs $95 for 12 months.

Thank You guys!
If I had a car, it’s just 45 minutes up the 405.
