hey,

does anyone know the fastest way to get from ucla to uci and vice versa? thanks.

Does anyone also know the fastest way to get from UCLA to Oceanside or the Inland Empire? Thanks!

one of my friends asked about ucla and uci too haha. are you danielle? haha.

no...i'm a guy

UCLA to oceanside by public transport?

Try the train to union station, switch to the subway, and then take the bus to campus.

dyip10, how long does that take including the walking?

If it's a semi-regular trip, try the UCLA vanpool. If irregular, take the bus (try Big Blue Bus or MTA) to Union Station, then the train (Metrolink to Orange /Riverside/San Bernardino/Ventura County or Amtrak to Orange/San Diego/Ventura County). I know it isn't a short trip- my sister takes the train/bus to UCLA from UCI every few weeks and it takes her about two hours.

bfired2, thanks! do you think you can ask your sister what the exact route she takes and how much it costs? is the UCLA vanpool a program at la? do they take you directly to uci and is it free?

For info about the vanpool check out this site: http://www.vanpool.ucla.edu/students/commuting/vanpools/ It should all the info you are looking for.

I asked my sister and she takes the Metrolink from Irvine to Union Station, then the Red Line to Vermont/Sunset (MAKE SURE YOU GET ON THE RIGHT RED LINE, THE ONE TO NORTH HOLLYWOOD! There's another Red Line to Wilshire/Western and I got on that one by accident once. From that rail station, take the MTA Bus 2 (doublecheck on mta.net) to UCLA. From UCI to Union is about an hour, about $8. From Union to UCLA is almost another hour, bus fares depend, but I would just get the $3 daypass to avoid confusion with transfers and such.

From Oceanside to Union Station (2 hours)

Subway (~30 mins), Bus (30 mins to an hour)

I took the station from Orange County to Union Station took me about an hour. Including bus and subway took me around 3.5 hours (because traffic was worse than usual, I could probably get there in 2.5)

From Oceanside to UCLA with train/subway/bus I'm guessing it'll take 3.5 to 4 hours.

I didn't like the bus part. :(

thanks you guys

Yes, thanks, it seems likes it's going to be a little difficult, but we'll have to figure something out.

You can always go to Santa Monica and catch a blue bus to UCLA from there.

Metrolink goes to Riverside and other places in the Inland Empire.

I know there's a stop between LA and Anaheim... too bad the new rail system won't be done for another couple of years.
