going to be visiting sewanee end of feb. visiting another school in memphis on thurs and then heading over for a friday am visit. mapquest etc suggests going up to nashville then back down to sewanee . but there is a road (64) that goes across state. per the map sites its longer but looks more direct route to me. anyone actually do it and have an opinion? also any suggestions on hotels just for the night (thurs) ie smokehouse in monteagle?

I'm afraid I can't help with the driving route, but I do recommend staying at the American Eagle Inn in Monteagle rather than the Smokehouse.

thanks so much grits80 I'll get that booked today. Do you have a child at sewanee, or go there yourself? any thoughts on the school?

Our son is a freshman at Sewanee and is very happy with his choice. His first semester was challenging yet manageable. Sewanee is a friendly place and the social aspects of college came together quickly. It's not for everyone though as it's very isolated. You will see that there isn't much going on in Monteagle and even less in the town of Sewanee. As a result the Greek system is huge.

thanks, you'll see my first post on this forum addressed those 2 issues.LOL my son has agreed to go visit but the rural environment and greek life concern him. He really seems to want a bigger town/city. The GC at his school is actually an alumni and i think she had more input into the agreement to visit than i did.
his list of potential colleges is so varied right now..big research type, small LAC, state schools with honors colleges and all over the country. I still havent figured out how we will visit most of them, as he goes to a hs about 6 hours away and is only home for school breaks (when colleges are also on break) and he has applied for summer internships (which if he gets means he wont be home all summer). it is probably going to mean applying and only visiting those he gets accepted to after the fact. at least will get 2 done this month.
