Travel to Boston or Providence

How do Wheaton students get to Boston or Providence? Is there public transportion? How expensive is it, and do students commonly do this?

Anyone care to respond?

Loki,

There is public transportation to both Boston and Providence for Wheaton students. Students can ride a local bus service called the GATRA ([GATRA: The Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority](http://www.gatra.org/)) to the rail station in Mansfield (takes about 10 minutes). The GATRA bus is free to Wheaton students who present their ID.

Mansfield Station is on the MBTA’s Commuter Rail ([MBTA.com > Official Website for Greater Boston’s Public Transportation System](http://www.mbta.com/)). The line runs from Boston to Providence. The price from Mansfield to South Station in Boston is $6.75 one way. Mansfield to Providence it’s $2.25 one way.

So, it’s about 50 mins to Boston and 25 mins to Providence from Wheaton.

Loki5, my D is a freshman at Wheaton. She has not ventured into Boston yet, but she has gone into Providence several times (see the post above for details) and found it to be very easy and affordable. Providence is a wonderful small city with restaurants, shopping, etc.

Thanks–this is helpful! How does your D like Wheaton?

Loki, my S loves Wheaton, has made a lot of friends, is involved in some activities & has gone into Providence & Boston. Likes all his professors & his small classes.
