Travel to Madison

Is there an airport in Madison that one is able to fly into?

Flying into Milwaukee is a big trip for us, and would rather not have to fly for several hours, then rent a car and drive for a few more.

Any suggestions for travel directly from New Orleans, or maybe even another stopover point?

Thanks for any help!

Dane County Regional Airport:

Likely need to connect in Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago or elsewhere.

Looks like Northwest connects in Memphis or Detroit for example.

Driving Milwaukee airport to campus is 90-110 minutes depending on day of week and time. Anything that avoids rush hour both places makes it 90 minutes.

I live in San Antonio, TX and get to UW by flying from my hometown to O’Hare in Chicago and then to Madison.

Probably the easiest, cheapest way for students is to fly into O’Hare and take the Van Galder bus to the Memorial Union. There are past threads with more info. The time spent changing planes to arrive at the Madison airport, then get to campus would probably be best spent on the bus- often filled with students at break times. If you find the Milwaukee airport has a good deal on a flight you could take the Badger Bus to Madison, although not to the Union.

Badger Bus does go from the Milwaukee airport to the UW union.

Then you would probably have to use city buses or cab in Madison to get to lodging if you’re staying overnight though I think the UW site offers some on campus visitor lodging too. Same issues with taking the bus from Chicago. Not sure where there are car rental locations in Madison other than the airport.
