Here’s a real featherweight pack that is less than 1/2 a pound. It fits into its own tiny stuff sack and is only $20 at Amazon.com. It’s not great for electronics (no protection), but something to consider. It has nothing to attach it to the handle of any suitcase.

Thank you for all those amazing suggestions!! I’ve been checking each and every one out!!

I can say that having a backpack that slides over the handle of the carry-on rolling suitcase is ideal! On my recent trip, I’d try to perch my heavy backpack on my carryon and the whole thing would just tip over. Multiple times. Going through four airports it became clear there had to be a better way, lol!

One more ‘clothing adjacent’ item I could have really used during travel in Europe - a foldable toiletry bag that you can hang on a hook in the bathroom. It was recommended (Rick Steves, lol) but I thought “I can’t buy yet one more thing for this trip!” Then I saw the miniscule sinks in tiny bathrooms without shelves, lol.

I think sleeves are a great idea, though I don’t have one (but get a bit of use out of a backpack handle that can slip over roller bag handle). Still though with a sleeve I think the whole tower could tip over due to top-heaviness.

We have been very happy having backpacks with sleeves to slide over luggage handle.

I think items with sleeves are best, but I also have a bungee strap to secure sleeveless items. It works quite well.

I have this VERY inexpensive backpack from Amazon; it has 4.5 stars and over 21000 reviews. It is lightweight, zipper top opens wide for easy access, has a strap that slides over the suitcase handle, lots of pockets, holds a laptop, etc. I’ve used it for multiple trips and it is still in perfect condition.

That looks perfect!

Thanks! That may be a great option for my D this summer in Kenya… it has a professional look so she could use during the work week and is water resistant and washable. (She does not want to take anything expensive.) She will have my old Osprey daypack for more casual outings.

Gosh, I’m tempted to grab one! Would also be a really nice gift for a graduate or anyone - stuff it with a cute notebook/pens/snacks - would make a great gift!

I’ve talked myself into it - going to go order one!

Edited to say, I think this could also sub in for a purse on a business trip. So carry on and this and I’d be all set. Thanks for the suggestion @mompop

Add me to the list of CC posters ordering one! I’ve been needing one for over a year and just never pulled the plug on any others.

@mompop - that is really cute and elegant! Do you think if I got the 17 inch version I could fit in a change of clothes plus a laptop? Trying to find something I can take on budget airlines for say a three day weekend, lol.

Jolynne, I think you could fit all of that plus more. I have taken it to Europe and on multiple other trips. On a daily basis I carry it for work- it fits my laptop, files, wallet, phone, etc. and I often stop at the market on the way home and add quite a few items. It is waterproof and lightweight. I’ve had it for a few years, so I hope the quality has not changed!

@mompop - that’s good to hear! It sounds like it could replace my work, laptop carry bag (take laptop home every night) which would be bonus - that thing with it’s skinny straps hurts my shoulder, lol.

I am ordering!!

Also very much appreciate the other suggestions!!!

That’s a good idea on business trip. You could always slip in a small wallet-purse (I often do that, one just big enough to hold credit cards and glasses) or neck wallet if there are meals out or other non-laptop outings.

@popmama — we just ordered one of each size for me and D to see whether either of both of us want the cool backpack you linked. Glad to hear it’s durable and nice price. Like that it has luggage sleeve & light interior so you don’t lose your stuff in black interior.

Just bought a pair of men’s black joggers with omniheat. They are xxs and hopefully will fit D or me. reviews are very positive. Sadly they have very limited sizing but nice sake price (end of season).

My new backpack recommended by mompop just arrived super-speedy from Amazon (hours after placing order - I don’t fully understand how that happened so quickly? lol).

I love it!!

Did you get the bigger size?

Yes! And I just measured - it will still fit under Frontier seats. Quite roomy inside! Seems at least as spacious as the heavy, cumbersome backpack I’ve been hauling around for a couple of years. Nicely organized inside, too!
