Besides wearing Costco joggers I also bring a few pairs of Vuori Miles Ankle Pants ( have several colors) to wear when I need lightweight non-wrinkle slacks. I am only 5’2" so the ankle pants are slacks length for me.

Yes, I should have warned everyone - sizing beyond generous in Eddie Bauer. D20’s XS are very roomy.

Reminder of comparisons like this where some brands seem to be “liar, liar, pants on fire” (easier to compare with men’s sizes where the size is the nominal measurement):

My daughter just brought up vanity sizing yesterday. She bought a pair of Madewell jeans. She sews a lot of her own clothes (and is currently sewing her wedding dress) and knows that her waist fluctuates between 30-32 inches. So she was surprised to fit in size 27 jeans!

I had bought two different sizes knowing I’d have to return one size. Yes, the smaller one was better.

However I also recommend reading comments/reviews before buying something. I had bought a couple of jackets from EB and most of the comments said the item ran very small. I sized up and was pleased with the fit. Also be sure to read the description. Sometimes it’ll say athletic fit or relaxed fit or classic fit.

I have a trunk with clothing from all parts of my life which were and are special…and who knows maybe a grandkid will want them.

Anyway. I have clothing in that truck with size 8/9 - from the 70’s and 80’s. Those things are tiny, tiny, tiny. And no - they don’t fit anymore. Today’s size 8/9 often fit…and there is at least 20 lbs more of me than there was in the 70’s.

I guess this is why my husband likes his Banana Republic jeans better than the ones from Gap, both the same size!

I took a pair of the Vuori Miles pants to Italy with me last fall. I found that style ran small. I got the pistachio color and found it versatile.

I found Miles pants fit me better than Ripstop pants in the same size.

My friend loves the rip stop and that is what I was looking for when I went to the store. The rip stop didn’t fit me well at all and the sales associate suggested the Miles. I also have a soft black knit pair with a flared leg that I took with me. It was comfortable for the plane but also if I put a sweater on with it I could dress them up.

Adding to the pant conversation - these are great. Soft, lightweight, and easy to dress up or down. Extremely comfortable.

I’m a big fan of Lysse leggings. Some of them look like regular ponte pants or skinny jeans.

OMG. I love that dress…but it’s out of all sizes except XS.

I brought some flare khakis with my to Italy - thinking narrow ankle pants might be a little out of style (?) and that the flare would somewhat hide my casual hiking shoes/sneakers (to try and look more elegant? lol).

As it turns out tons of people were wearing ankle-length, narrow pants through Italy. And I cared not a bit about showing off my Merrell hiking shoes. Wore something like this (easy pull on, stretchy) almost everywhere:

Those pants are cute! Good choice.

When we do our fall trip (Viking river cruis - Amsterdam…. Basil , then Florence), not sure if I will bring my waterproof low hiking books and/or grey sneakers. It seems like every youtube travel video we watch about Amsterdam has at least some rainy weather.

My low hiking shoes worked perfectly. To me the key is whether you’d be comfortable wearing the shoe all day, for multiple days. I brought an extra pair of sneakers (in case the hiking shoes started hurting) - but ended up not wearing them at all (and they took up a lot of valuable carry-on bag real estate! lol).

That cruise sounds amazing btw! My daughter absolutely loved her trip to Amsterdam recently!

For the gentlemen out there, my go-to traveling pants are the LL Bean Cresta hiking pants. Take up no room, dry very quickly, look good (!), have zippered back and cargo pockets. On a river cruise, a couple of times I had no time to change into khakis for dinner and just kept them on, and I still maintained the business casual look suggested for dinner.

They are kinda pricy, but have found them to be just what I want for flying vacations.

@dietz199 what dress are you talking about. The reply gave a pic of pants.

We are cruising in June from Amsterdam to Budapest. Will be taking my Merrill waterproof hiking shoes, a pair of Hoka and a pair of flats.

That sounds like a good plan. I think slip-on flats will be handy on the ship.
