I live on Long Island, New York and I'm just wondering whats the quickest/ easiest/cheapest ways to get to ann arbor. I've looked into flights and amtrak, it seems that Spirit airlines from JFK to Detroit is the best way to get there, any other input would be great.

I usually take Spirit/AA/Delta from LGA to DTW. It should be a sub 2 hour plane ride.

Do not take Amtrak unless you like sitting for over 12 hours straight (I can’t remember the total length, but I remember it took almost 30 hours once during the winter). Some of their train cars don’t have power outlets, either. Aside from that, though, it’s a little less of a hassle than flying is (no TSA), and I don’t think there are baggage fees, unless they’ve changed that in the past few years.

That sounds about right. Amtrack to Ann Arbor from the East Coast doesn’t work unless you take the bus from Toledo. There are connecting flights from Islip. Flights from LGA may be cheaper.

It looks like Southwest flies from Long Island Macarthur to Detroit with a connection in Baltimore for about $300 one way. It seems there are quite a few flights.

I had a $248 roundtrip with Delta from La Guardia to DTW and back (without having to connect anywhere). Was there from Wednesday to tonight. Good deal and I didn’t have to pay for any extra to check bags because I was able to fit everything I needed in my carry ons.

Also, only took an hour and five minutes coming back! So quick.

^That’s pretty much what I pay when I do NYC. If you’re able to book in advance, Delta runs that deal to LaGuardia pretty frequently, so don’t go near any $300 one-way-with-stopover deals; you can do better!

The $300 with stopovers is for a flight from Islip not from LGA. Depending on where in Long Island the OP lives, the connection may save the OP driving time and ground time.
