Is there an economical way to get to UM/ Ann Arbor from the airport?

I think the michigan student government offers some $7 bus ride for holidays.

I have been told a cab ride is about $50 each way.

I am a perspective student visiting next week and would like to know of any less expensive options for tran to/from the airport

a cab ride is $50, but theres plenty of shuttles available for much much cheaper.

some of the options:

Custom Transit, Inc.
(734) 971-5555

Ann Arbor Airport Shuttle Express
(734) 394-1665

it'll prob cost you 20-30 each way

BTW is Ann Arbor Airport Shuttle Express reliable since I will be on a tight schedule in terms of my flights and the tour. They said they'd be able to accomodate my time but I am concerned about the reliability.

1) How long is the drive from the airport to Ann Arbor?

2) Do you really have to be at Detroit airport two hours before flight time for a domestic flight. All of the airports have been saying this but I've been getting through in less than 15 minutes at each airport I have been to in the last few months.

Yes, the shuttles are pretty reliable, but it is worth the extra pain just to save $20 each way? On such a visit, where you really don't know Ann Arbor and probably really want to be driven to your destination, I recommend spending the extra $20 and getting in exactly where you want to be.

It takes roughly 20-30 minutes to drive from the airport to downtown Ann Arbor, depending on the traffic and the driver.

And yes, you should get to the Detroit airport at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure. Detroit is one of the 56 or 7 busiest airports in the nation, so naturally, passengers have to get there well ahead of time.

Hmmmm

I made a reservation for the shuttle to meet me at the admissions office at 1:00 for a 3:00 flight. Does that sound like I am playing it too close?

It will be tight, but there isn't much traffic at 1:00 PM, so you should be ok.
