Is there a trend in 2011 FRQs being harder than usual? I've seen and heard complaints about the Chemistry and Calculus FRQs being harder than usual. Is this true, and do you think this trend will continue for other AP tests?

I think the FRQs were made harder to make up for the no guessing penalty. Hypothetically, one could just guess their way to pass any test. The increased difficulty of the FRQs makes up for that. That is, if you thought they were hard…I personally took both of those tests and believe the FRQs were harder than usual…

I guess if that is the case, then the curve should not go up as much as expected.

I completely agree with that. The FRQs have been a lot harder than expected. I’ve taken a lot of practice Calc and Chem, and they seemed a lot easier than the ones on test day. And I think Punjab, you are completely correct. I hadn’t even thought about that, but now that I see that, that makes complete and total sense.

Yeah last year’s Calc FRQs were really easy, now they are supposed to have been really hard.

Psych’s FRQs were still as easy as usual, though. Haven’t heard about or taken any other exams, so we’ll see. I really hope the Lit essays aren’t any harder than usual…

I looked at the Psych and Calc FRQs from past years and I felt I could do decently only the Calc and OWN the Psych (I knew ALL of them, no kidding, no confirmation bias, not too much “self-efficacy”). I definitely feel this year’s were tougher than the last’s, or maybe I was just unlucky in studying the wrong things…I’ll see come this July

I’ll put in a word for Comp Sci on Tuesday being damn hard too. Also heard from others at my school that Art History on Wed was hard. This is not a good year…

I agree - they seemed a LOT harder than practice/released exams. Does anyone know what the cutoff might be for a 5? 4? I’m scared I failed them all!

Calc didn’t seem any tougher than the practice we got, but I’ve heard from others at school that Chem was hard.

Chem was . Psych was somewhat more difficult. I’ve heard Art History was another and Calculus BC was a quasi-*. Chinese writing was on par with past years while speaking was a bit harder. We’ll see as more tests are administered, but that’s what I’ve gleaned.

I agree. Before i took the AP Envir. Science exam on Monday, i was reviewing and looking at past FRQ’s on AP Central, and they seemed easy. The FRQ’s that i got on Monday were intense, especially the math section.

When I look at the Chem questions, they don’t seem THAT difficult…At best, only a little bit. I should stop worrying.

APES FRQ was easy. Psych FRQ was meh. AB FRQ just shoot me in the face. Lit was normal.

AP Calc FRQs were slightly harder than practice ones, but I didn’t think they were too bad, except for one of them I guess. AP English was easy. Euro wasn’t too bad. Psych easy except for like 2 definitions I had to sorta guess on, make them up kinda. Spanish was fine, except I didn’t finish the 2-minute speaking thing in time, I still had more to say.

the APUSH dbq was really easy imo and the FRQs were alright if not easier than previous years’ questions.

Euro FRQ was a lot easier than any of the ones posted by college board, I could have answered 5 out of the 6, but on the old ones I could have answered 1 good, and maybe BS on 2. Also the DBQ was pretty easy.

Yeah, I guess my fear about USH and Euro FRQs was unjustified…

Of course, they still may pull a difficult one on World History

Calc - hard. USH - easy (except for those classes which hadn’t studied Nixon).

What do you think it will be for Physics?

Physics will be easy for me since I’m good at math.

Physics. Who knows. Probably a rotational motion one involving calculus. ■■■.
