This year, I heard that the FRQs for all the tests were a joke. I came into the AP World and took the frq and they were so easy! My whole testing room finished with 30 minutes left! Anyway, AP world was not the only exam to have really easy frqs. I heard from a lot of my friends that their frqs were very easy too in other exams. They said they took previous frqs and they were soooo much harder. Personally, I took many past frqs and that they were hard. this year it was easy! That sucks for us, because the curve will be very low, if everyone does well:(
The curve is not set by us test takers. It is predetermined and adjusted slightly after we take the exam. I would bet that we just got lucky this year with easy frq’s haha. The rates for 1’s,2’s,3’s,4’s, and 5’s will likely be very similar to last year unless a test was completely redesigned.
Psych and Bio were crazy easy. I suspect low curves also
Remember that a very large amount of people taking ap tests are forced to take them and proceed to doodle on their tests
Some of us take them properly and doodle anyway. What else do you do for half an hour or more?
I wrote dirty jokes instead of an essay on the Art Historyou exam… think the curve will be helped a bit x) but really the answers matter more than the curve. . The enviro exam had a low passing rate especially compared to more challenging ap’s, probably because of the kids who took them. Don’t sweat it
The FRQs were not easy for all the tests. For example, chem and physics had fairly hard FRQs.
@Gatortristan Actually, your very own logic contradicted itself. If we assume that the 5/4/3 rates will be relatively the same this year as it was last year, and if this year’s FRQs are comparatively easier, then it follows that this year’s curve must be harsher than last year’s.
(More people do well on the FRQs because they are easier, but to maintain same score distribution, the scoring curve is made harder.)
Actually, I myself took AP Calculus AB and AP Statistics this year, and I can say that I thought the Calc FRQs were a tad bit harder than previous years simply because of all the focus on Differential Equations and interpreting things with them…
AP Stats was REALLY easy but thats probably just me, I made a 5 on a practice exam right before I took it.
@ypmagic I was strictly responding to the other poster’s logic. I do not myself believe that this years FRQs are “easier” than any other year’s, obviously…
The curve isn’t determined by how well we do- I’m actually fairly certain it is predetermined. Otherwise, the “bell curve” of scores between different AP exams would be much less irregular (aka 48 percent of students taking Calc BC get a 5 while 6 percent of people taking Bio get a 5).
Good. Hopefully they will have a similar curve as last year!
Calc AB and Chemistry were definitely hard. Calc, I thought, was much harder.Chemistry was about as hard as I expected (which is to say, very).
AP World History’s, in my opinion, essays were crazy easy. The multiple choice was pretty tough for me though. I heard AP Chem was a challenge for many this year.
I think AP Macroeconomics exam was too easy to be true, and I’m saying this as someone who skipped the class a lot and didn’t pay attention. There’s a guy in my class who skips a lot too, and he said it was easy. I haven’t met a person who said it was hard.
I don’t know about Psych though because I didn’t know the chemicals and brain parts.
Having taken the exam last year, I thought last year’s was easy. To the original question, I don;t think that the responses you receive from the College Confidential community will represent a microcosm of AP test takers as a who. I’d be very surprised to find much variance in the curves this year.
Ap World was so easy, both multiple choice and the essays , because I used Getafive.com
I disagree. Not all of the tests were “too easy.” I thought chemistry was impossible, and APUSH was MUCH harder than expected. Not everyone is as smart as everyone on CC.
Actually, it is not related to intelligence of the other CCers. The exam(s) the OP took happened to be easy this year, but that obviously doesn’t mean that ALL the exams this year were easy. In fact, some were pretty hard (physics, chem, calc, etc).
THERE IS NO CURVE ON AP EXAMS. All students who qualify for a 5 will receive a five, and all who qualify for a 4 will receive a 4, etc. etc.
