Hello! My name is Cutler, and I have been accepted to both of these schools; with scholarships, the cost will be about the same regardless of the university. I have been accepted also to University of Texas at Austin and University of Texas at Dallas, and I am yet to hear back from University of Washington, Lehigh University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Brandeis University and Emory (feel free to give me any opinions about any of these aswell). However, I foresee that it will come down to these two schools (financially speaking). I am planning on double majoring in Neuroscience and Philosophy and going on the PreMed track. However, which school is better?
I know Trinity is ranked best in the west and has the 8th best science facilities in the nation according to the Princeton Review. I also know it is super small and consists of only 2,500 students. Tuition wise, it has a banded tuition rate and the cost to take 12 hours or 18 doesn’t change. It is also in San Antonio and is a beautiful campus, but a liberal arts school.
Tulane is in New Orleans and is ranked 40th in the nation; it is a research university. It is slightly larger at 6,000 kids but does not have banded tuition (so it may be slightly more expensive, especially for a double major.) It is also ranked high on the list for party schools, but has a Brain Institute and is in the top 10 in the nation for Brain Sciences.
I have visited both campuses and love them both (despite their vast differences). I am just trying to gauge how important the prestige is when considering med schools; which will offer the better experience; who has the smartest students; at which school will study abroad be more attainable? Will both schools be readily easy to get around without a car at? Is the cost worth it to attend a higher ranked school? And is New Orleans going to offer better opportunity and experience than San Antonio? All these questions are going through my head and this is turning into a super challenging decision.
If anyone has any input or advice at all regarding these two schools, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thank you so much!
