Trinity vs. BU....

So, as of now, my top two are BU and Trinity. I know that they are both very different and hard to compare, but can anyone give me some insight? I'm very torn because BU gave me a ridiculous financial aid award and I don't know what Trinity will give me. Thanks!!!

anyone???????

Don't know them well enough to do the compare and contrast, except that my D. is an applicant to Trinity, and I'm from Boston, so I know BU a bit.

Obvious things: size, style - Trinity is a small LAC on a very pretty campus. While it's in a city, I think you get the feel of a more isolated setting. BU is right in the city, much of the school very intergrated with the city's streets. Bigger school, bigger classes. Boston is a college town, and BU is right near a bunch of things that make Boston feel like a college town - Kenmore Square area, where kids from MIT, Northeastern, Emerson all go. I like BU's campus setup - as city campus, it's a very nice one.

Check the choices available to you in the areas of study you are interested in. Does each school give you a good selection of courses in what you are interested in?

Is it important to you to be in a more sheltered learning environment, like Trinity, or are you fine with a university setting? BU has a lot of different opportunities, but Trinity is probably a bit more nurturing.

Wish I knew more to help, but those are some of the things to think about.

thank you chaucers_pal!! I plan to schedule overnight visits at each.

Trinity's financial aid is ridiculous, and it is guaranteed to meet your demonstrated need. I can only tell what my experience has been, and I'll let you know: I'm receiving $40,375 in GRANTS.

chaucers_pal is right about the feel of the campus. Trinity feels more like a suburb, in the sense that if you don't want to experience the city, you don't have to. That is something I value, since I live in a suburb of NYC, and I enjoy my peace.

Aside from that, I think it's rather difficult to compare a smalls liberal arts college to a large university.

Thanks BantamBoy. The only problem is that I have recieved $45,000 in grants for BU! And $5,000 federal loans. I haven't recieved the Trinity financial aid package yet.

Wow! Congratulations!

If that is the case, after you receive your Trinfo, if it doesn't entice you, I would try to negotiate something with the Financial Aid Office. If that doesn't work, I would totally go for BU, because you're all set!

Again, congratulations!

There is no comparison. BU is in the heart of the city and is linear, that is, everything is up and down Commonwealth and Bay State Road. There is no Quad area to speak of and really no central areas to pass through. The classes are larger and it is less personal. Trinity is in the suburb of sorts. Very self contained and has a great Quad and lots of areas to socialize in. Classes are small and I know my professors really well. I'm at Trinity and think it is great. My Dad went to BU and I could not imagine myself there.

Which has better academics? I have been going back and forth for three days now
