Are y'all planning on arriving in casual clothes? It stinks to travel through airports in anything but jeans, but it seems like we'll be pretty busy as soon as we arrive on campus and I wasn't sure quite what the dress code for the first night was. Emilia, what are you planning on wearing to classes? Boys have this so much easier. ;-)

It would be easy for girls too if they didn't think so much about clothes and what they'll absolutely die if they don't pack! ;)

For what it's worth, I'm arriving in casual clothes since the interviews are on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. I'll be arriving around an hour before the (three-hour-long) registration begins, so I've got time if I need it.

yeah, the interviews aren't the first day so go in jeans

Arrive in casual clothes. If you wear your interview clothes, they will be all rumpled after several hours on the plane and the hour drive to Lex, not to mention maybe sweaty... and if you're me, it would be the time that I dump spaghetti sauce on myself during a meal. If you are really worried, change at the airport while waiting for your bags or a ride to Lex.

I hadn't even thought about this, lol...my lack of foresight to everything important in my life recently has been rather astounding and disturbing.

thinks

I suppose I'll wear something like black jeans and a decent-looking shirt to travel in...and then for observing classes, probably either non-blue jeans or khakis and nice, but not-too-dressy, tops. For the actual interviews (must look up schedule) it'll definitely be nice pants and a nice top or maybe a more formal looking blazer and pants or something? I absolutely abhor skirts and most dresses, although at my school I have to wear a skirt on a daily basis, so go figure.

I need to go shopping...

have any of the guys decided if they're going to bring a suit jacket or not? i really don't want to lug that thing around if i don't have to :)

I'm pretty sure I've decided not to. Strange after all that conversation about it, but I just don't know. I'm not looking forward to lugging one around, either, and that's really the biggest part. If there's anything about a candidate that would preclude him from a scholarship, I'd like to think it wouldn't be the lack of a suit jacket.

amen to that :)

I'm bringing TWO suits to Washington for this weekend (friday-sunday) along with at least two shirts and three ties (one for each day) so I can do without when we're in Lexington.

In an effort to redeem myself, let me mention that I'm only bringing one pair of shoes.

"I'm bringing TWO suits to Washington for this weekend (friday-sunday) along with at least two shirts and three ties (one for each day) so I can do without when we're in Lexington."

So does that mean you're not going to be very meticulous about your clothes for Lex, or did I misread that? I'm going to be dressy (collared shirts for classes, shirt and tie etc. for interviews), but I'm not a fashion pro by any means.

Yeah, you read it right. Thanks to the Junior State of America, I'm going to be practically living in my suits so not worrying about bringing them to Lexington is nice.

Besides, on the way back, I'm in the middle of the Dash-8, where would I hang the suit?

Thanks for the feedback, Emilia. I actually had breakfast with a W&L soph who is a friend of my sister's this morning, and she said that people seldom wear jeans at all to class, so khakis and the like are a good option. So that's probably what I'll go with. I have slacks and a blazer for interviews. LOL, and good luck shopping! Here in Texas it's hard to find stuff that will be warm enough for VA right now, since people are already back in their flip flops and shorts.

~*~

Flip flops and shorts? It's gonna drop back down to freezing here in New York City this weekend. I haven't worn a short sleeved shirt since November.

It's not fair!

"and she said that people seldom wear jeans at all to class, so khakis and the like are a good option."

Did that leave a bad taste in anyone else's mouth? I'm starting to have those concerns about W&L again. I guess I'll really know in a few weeks, though.

This is my biggest concern about W&L: the prep/frat factor. I'm crossing my fingers it's not as bad as I've been imagining.

i pity you dima; i've gone to the pool two times this week and the beach once. ahhh, florida weather in the winter :) (it's 80 degrees right now, double :)!)

LOL...I don't think I've even worn khakis/a skirt to class...maybe once? I wear jeans every day, and that's usually what I see the vast majority of students wearing, so don't sweat it. :)

From College P R O W L E R (apparently an evil, evil word)
"The guys can be impressive when they want to be: a blazer, khakis, and a tie - preferably a bow tie - are standard."

I wonder "when they want to be" is?

I'm gonna show up in jeans and a Yankees jersey.

If I feel out of place, w/e, I'm out of place as a high school student anyway, at least I'll know what to wear next year.

I used to wear prep clothes - from about 6th to 9th grade it was all I wore, I got sick of it though.

Khakis and a pink polo shirt - you'll blend right in. This goes for guys more than girls.

Yes, I'm serious.

Interview clothes advice: wear what you are more comfortable in (within reason). You will probably interview better if you are in your element. Be clean - try to shower beforehand. Have your hair neatly combed, clothes not wrinkled (bring them into the bathroom when you shower - the steam will loosen the wrinkles), and, for girls, if you wear skirts, wear nylons.
