My daughter just got her housing assignment and she is in a triple. Any one else out there get their room assignments?
Are Gilbert dorms big enough for 3?
If you know the room number you can check on the size of the room on the Housing website which gives floor plans and room dimensions. In Gilbert Hall each floor has 2 rooms that are larger than the rest of the doubles (one has its own bathroom-I suspect for handicapped students but if they don’t have enough students in such a category non-handicapped students would be assigned to the room). Hopefully she is in one of these larger rooms. Good luck.

Thanks for the info
My daughter was also assigned a triple, but in the new Rodney dorm. I was told the rooms are big, however, when I asked if that meant the beds did not have to be bunked, the answer was that they do. I’m skeptical that the size is any different than a double.
If you look at the floor plans for the new Rodney dorm it appears that very, very few rooms would appear to be designed as regular triples on the 2nd and 3rd floors with a number of rooms on the fourth floor being a little larger so possibly they were designed as regular triples. I suspect some of the students assigned to triples in this dorm will be in rooms regularly designed as doubles (at least who are in rooms on the 2nd and third floors). Check out the room your D was assigned to on the housing website. If she is in a room on the fourth floor it looks like most of the rooms on this floor are larger. Good luck. As least the new dining Hall is right in the complex so she won’t have to walk to a dining hall. This is the website for all the dorm floor plans: http://web.facilities.udel.edu/ResHallInfo/
wow! housing assignments are super, super early this year!
My son also was assigned to a triple. It’s is George Read. That means 6 kids in 2 rooms (normally for 4) and sharing a bathroom that they also are responsible to clean. Yuck. It says that each room will only have one dresser. That is not much flat space to share. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with a George Read (or other Laird) triple. Any advice would be appreciated.
I believe each room also has a wardrobe (like a closet) which also has 4 drawers in it besides the dresser in the room. Space is also available under beds (up to two feet high) and you can purchase some plastic pull-out drawers to put in this space. Good luck.
Hello all! I am going to be a senior at UD and I was actually in a triple (what they call extended housing) my freshman year in George Read. I shared the bathroom with 4 other girls, 3 in my room and 2 in the other. As girls, we obviously kept the bathroom a little neater than a guy might, but it’s very easy to keep them clean. Two of the beds in any extended housing triple (which are usually all the freshman triples) have to be bunked. In George Read triples there are 2 wardrobes which have hanging space and draws, and one dresser. My freshman year, I took one wardrobe to myself, another roommate took the dresser for herself, and the third roommate took the second wardrobe but shared hanging space with the girl who only got the dresser. As mwallenmd said above, I would definitely suggest the plastic drawers under the beds. I have been using them for 3 years and in addition to space savers, they are also life savers. I promise, it won’t be bad! We made it work very well, so it is definitely doable.
The rooms in Gilbert, Redding, and the new Rodney are bigger than Lane, Thompson, and Russell.
Yes, they are plenty big enough. Redding, Gilbert, and the new Rodney res halls have the most space. That is why triples are at those locations.
