I was placed into a triple room and was wondering if anyone had any experience in a triple room or know what the process is to de-triple a room?

Any info would be great

Didn’t know UVA had triples…must be the new dorms?

This year UVa overenrolled by about 100 students, therefore triple rooms.

They try to un-triple them if at all possible. It likely won’t be possible this year. I had a friend at another college who had a triple and she really liked it actually. There are some great pics on the housing website of how they loft the beds to make the most room possible. Which dorm are you in? Is there a suite or other common living space you can chill if your room feels claustrophobic?

You’re probably less likely to get sexiled in a triple…

My D had a 5 person suite in Harvard freshmen dorms ,and only 1 bathroom ! They all managed .

Last year there were some students placed in triples (not sure how many). I believe most, if not all, were shifted around and placed in doubles right before/shortly after school began; thus, there’s hope. If you do remain in a triple for the remainder of the year, try to keep positive. Our D wasn’t thrilled with her placement last year, and it turned out to be fine. Most students are seldom in their room that much anyway. ;)

I’ve never lived in a triple, but I knew people who did at my last school, and my boyfriend has lived in triples at the Naval Academy for the past three years. It isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, and you’ll be great at organizing by the end of the year :)

Summer melt generally takes care of this.

As of a couple months ago, I believe the triples were only expected to be one room per suite, in situations where the suite includes a good-sized lounge right next to the room. Therefore, at least you have a place to get away if it gets crowded, or if someone needs to stay up late, etc. Housing also said they were trying to use the largest rooms for the triples. The original intent was to only have them in the remaining 1970s “new dorms” on McCormick Rd.

Old Dorms are on McCormick
New Dorms are on Alderman

Yes, if you look on the floorplans for the Alderman road dorms there is one room in each suite that is slightly larger and is designated as use for a triple when needed (link below, floorplan on left, the triple is on the bottom left).

In the following article I understood that enrollment as of June 30 was 3,560, 200 above the target of 3,360. The article goes on to state that based on previous years they anticipate the final number to be fewer than 100 students over the target.
