I got my housing assignment in the mail this week and I have found out that I have been tripled. The way it works at my college (from what I've heard) is that they use slightly larger double rooms for triples, but I've also heard that they don't have enough of the slightly larger rooms this year, which from what I see, I think I'm in a regular room.

Anyways, are there any tips from anyone that has been forced into a triple that I should consider? Also, I've heard that when people are in triples, usually two roommates click and the other is the odd one out... does this occur? I know that I don't have to hang out with these people, but it would be nice if I was mutual with them or even friends.

Same exact situation! My problem is that I’m slightly claustrophobic and I would really need some space. So all it will do is encourage me to be more active on campus so I don’t have to be cramped in the dorm with them.

I’d be ****ed if my school stuck me in a triple. I would just complain non stop to housing about how you were told you’d be a in a double etc etc. Some schools give you discounts if you get stuck in a triple. I hate how schools give more spots than they can accomadate and then screw over students.

Just don’t go in thinking “this sucks” and you’ll be fine. being in a triple means just someone else to talk to in the room
sure it’ll be a bit more crowded, but i guarantee you’ll be in your room less than you think right now.

Agree with thehoo, unless there is a big problem with being confined in a triple… my friend was originally in a triple, but all 3 guys were big - tall, muscular, and it was hard for them to get around each other. He ended up transferring into a double, but try to make the best of it!

I’m going to have a triple this year…I wanted one for the financial factor, but I’ve also met both of my roommates and they seem really awesome. I think that if you go into it with a really good attitude things should be fine–after all, it’s not like kids in doubles are immune from dorm disaster stories!

Thanks for all of the comments. It seems like it will be an interesting experience, and I will be going in with a positive mindset. Hopefully it will be broken down over time, so that it’s a double.

Anyone else have an experience with a triple?

That happened at my school last year…and almost everyone who that happened to got out of a triple and was put into a double by the middle of the year.

It’s not the end of the world. You get used to the small amount of space (trust me, dorm rooms can’t be smaller than UCLA’s rooms). The advantage is that if one of your roommates sucks, then you can still have at least one roommate you click with (assuming you click with the other roommate).

Of course, you could always have the third wheel problem like mentioned above.
