My daughter is having a hard time finding a roommate through the housing survey. Housing told her to edit the survey and she will get more matches. She selected edit off the survey menu but it is not allowing her to edit any of the info. Any suggestions?

Why does American accept students it does not have enough room for? I understand that she is in a triple because she committed to the school late, but this is turning into a very negative experience.

I lived in a triple my entire freshman year (even after being given the option to de-triple), it wasn’t that bad at all. The housing survey is new, so I think it’s just a process of getting the kinks worked out - just unfortunate this class gets to be the guinea pig. My roommates were assigned completely randomly, so even with the problems you’re having this still sounds like an improvement. I don’t mean to tell you your problems are insignificant, of course, I do hope it gets better. More importantly, the university is in the process of getting its plans for a new dorm complex approved by the city zoning commission, which is meant entirely to eliminate the need for triples (no significant housing has been built in a few decades, although most of the dorms have been nicely renovated in the past few years). While they likely will not be complete in time for your daughter to take full advantage of them, the current plans are currently online on AU’s website if you’re curious as to what’s in the pipeline.

Actually, we were specifically told it was in order of when you deposited. My daughter found her roommate through a facebook page for her AU incoming class. They exchanged emails and decided to list each other as room mate selections.

Rodney - bhmomma is correct; if you deposited early you received a double. If she did not want to live in honors she could find a triple she would be ok with.

Don’t worry if she can’t find a roommate. She will just be randomly assigned an honors triple and, imo, she will have just as good odds at finding roommates she likes. On paper, my D was doubtful that she would like her roommate last year - and now they are best friends!

NewJerseyMom - my D just finished her first year in Hughes honors dorm. She was to be in triple, but sadly the third roommate was killed in a car wreck in April of last year so they ended up with a double. There were a few triples on her floor. D got along fine with her assigned roomie, but they did not have a lot of common interests so they went their own ways for the most part. D’s roommate chose to do some language grouping next year, so D has an assigned roomie again for next year. She wanted to be in a triple in hopes to find someone who has interest in music as she does; this is the one thing that drove me nuts…she was on metro late at night alone coming back from concerts. The other thing was her roomie was an ‘early bird’ whereas D is a ‘night owl’ so my D was in the hallway studying many a night to allow her roomie to go to sleep at night…she had lots of company out there in the hall.
