How much space do we actually have in a triple hall? Is it possible to fit a fridge, microwave, and a tv in the room? How livable is it?

theres A LOT of room in my triple. we have a fridge, but we dont have a tv.

a tv isnt necessary. just go to a neighbor's room to watch

You'll think that it's small when you first live there, but over time, you won't care since you won't be in your room 24/7.

It is quite terrible if you are in a residence hall, not as terrible in a plaza, but still bad. I spent a couple of nights in a residence hall double, and it was cramped. Just think small cramped room, 3 guys, everywhere is junk, not nice. There is also no a/c so it has a rather "interesting" odor.

Yes but they are good for orgies. :)

well only if you are gay

Fastmed, if I remember correctly you are an incoming freshman, so I have to assume you are simply basing your generalization off a few days (at most), of experience in a res hall.

I recommend you actually live in one before you start passing judgment.

I lived in De Neve plaza and I had a tv and a fridge. We didn't have a microwave because well..they weren't allowed and we just didnt have the room..but the tv and fridge fit nicely. What we did to create more room is we put the two dressers in the closet so that we could put the fridge and TV in its place. Worked out pretty well. I loved my triple but really its the roommates not the space that make or break your experience in my opinion

Asura: You hardly need to have lived in a residence hall for a year to know how livable, cramped, etc it is. A brief glance is more than sufficient to know how much stuff you can fit in, whether a fridge, tv, microwave can reasonably fit in.

And yes, I can tell that residence halls don't smell like fresh mountain rain without spending a year there, and also that a triple is fairly uncomfortable living. Just remember, the residence hall triples were never meant to be triples. They were built to be doubles.

Anyways, if I offended you by insulting your future housing assignment Asura, I apologize for speaking the truth. The residence halls do not make for good living. Ok, I actually spent a bit over a week in the residence halls, and it is not fun. It is rather social, but it also has its downsides. For example, in Reiber, the "study lounge" is just a chat lounge, forcing you to either purchase a pair of Bose QuietComfort (which does not cancel noise as much as Bose wants you to think) or walk to the library or Covel Commons (10 minutes away). The hallways always smell faintly of pizza or junk food (which is not bad if you like pizza), but the showers and bathrooms are just your normal public restrooms with normal public bathroom sanitation. A bit troublesome if you need to do something private. Also, plenty of random noises in the night and guys yelling and singing for no apparent reason. It is alright for the first few days, but it is troublesome when you want to sleep or study.

Just my opinion. Plaza or suite is the way to go. Double preferrably.

single plaza is the way to go ;)

[/end out of place bragging]

I've never lived in a residence hall and don't intend to (unless I'm an RA in one someday). Some of us just like privacy and space. We have long days at school or out in the world, get back late, and want to shut out HUMANS.

applause
xD

triples in res hall isn't too bad. there is enough room for refriges, microwave, and tv. i dont think tv is really neccessary since you wont be in your room all the time. from what i've heard some people stay in their rooms 3 hours out of hte whole day (not including at night sleeping). i think you'll find ways to make space.

plazas arent that bad either, they are just a bit cleaner than res halls and have their own bathroom. but overall, i think they are pretty much the same.

this is all based on observations when i visited ucla. im also an incoming freshman =)

LOL at your disclaimer!

I'm in a triple at the moment, and it works out fine for me. We're a bit cramped in here but it's fun and I feel like.. this is the "Experience" I wanted out of college. It's really up to who you are as a person, I'm the kid that never slept in a bed large than a twin/full size and I'm pretty relaxed and I adjust well to things. We have a tv and a fridge, but no microwave. If i need to study I can go to the lounge (we have 3 gaming systems in my room), or if it's really bad I go to the fireside lounge (down in hedrick). I do have a pretty decent view since I live on 7 South of Hedrick( basically the penthouse, so nobody creates a ruckus above us). Plazas are definitely cleaner, and I'm gonna be living in Reiber Terrace next year in a triple, so in my perspective will be a great improvement, and I'll already have a lot of friends made from my experience in the halls.

In any case, good luck to you on your decision. Go bruins!
