that asian people have a harder time geting accepted into colleges since most asian ppl who apply are like 4.0, 2100, 500hours community service, etc etc etc? and also that theres only like 20% asian ppl in the US but about 45% in most colleges?

that selecting undecided for your major = easier chance to admission?

its better to apply early decision if youre one of those brilliant 2390 SAT kids with research and etc??

i perfer the first question asked bc i have two friends who got like 1500 or like 1480 on their SATs but got into like USC and stanford; and theyre nothing speical - like passed a couple ap exams with 3 or 4s and do the same EC's as me and etc ettc and i wonder if its bc theyre mexican..

there is a higher standard placed on asians. It’s really nothing special for an asian to do well on the SAT math, research, get good grades because of hard work, do math club/science olympiad/academic bowl, key club, and tennis team (Am I generalizing? Yes, but this is not unfounded). If an asian can just diversify themselve from the rest of their ethnicity, they’d probably stand a much better chance at admittance (I think working at McDonalds, playing varsity football, and starting your own service organization would be enough to diversify yourself).

Most college student bodies would be nowhere near 45% Asian. Look up the figures on stateuniversity.com, or in the Common Data Sets for a few schools. I think you’ll find that at top colleges outside California, the ratio tends to be under 15%. Examples:

Your probably mixing 45% with California state system universities. At the UC’s [University of California- (City)] you will find the Asian population to make up about 45% if the student body, if not more.

well even though i messed up on the percents;
asian ppl still have the second highest number of percent [ruight behind Caucasians]
and do to that i heard that some scholarships and etc dont even consider asians as a “minority”

Oh, only 1500 and 1480? :rolleyes: Do you know how well they write? What their grades are? I’m not denying the role AA takes in college admissions process, but don’t minimalize another’s achievements because of your own insecurities or shortcomings. Schools like Stanford and USC don’t just give away acceptance letters because you have dark skin.

You’re not going to see many schools with asian kids making up 45% of student body. Maybe on the west coast.

I would doubt that attempts for a representative student body would hurt asian applicants any more than white male applicants. Again, maybe on the west coast.

One of the main reasons Asians are held to a higher standard is that they tend to apply for a relatively small range of majors (sciences, engineering, math, business). Schools can only handle a limited # of students in each subject, so there are limits to how many they can accept. Also, most schools are devoted to diversity in one way or another, and don’t want the entire chemistry or mechanical engineering dept to be Asian.

So, let it be known you want to study sociology or philosophy or French and things will be easier.
