Same tough choice here too!

My son has the same tough choice…Stanford, Wash U with no $$ or possible trustee at SC. It will be a tough decision! Mail came today…still nothing from USC on the scholarships.

West coast… Nothing today

I’m beginning to wonder if they posted the scholarship letters bulk mail. How long does it take a first class letter to travel 50 miles?

Update: I got news from an adcom at USC that the scholarship letters were sent out this morning, rather than on Friday.

@Stevenf…well, that explains why the US post is taking so long! Thanks for the update. It’s too bad they told everyone that they mailed them Fri evening or Sat am. It’s caused a lot of extra anxiety for students waiting to hear. If they hadn’t said anything I think everyone would have anticipated them April 1st or with the admission decisions everyone else is waiting for.

smilldeb: They never announced that they were mailed Friday or Saturday. There was a tweet saying they were hoping for Friday, and someone said a friend with some knowledge told him Saturday, but there was never a confirmation from anyone official about Friday or Saturday. I hope Stevenf’s news is correct… BUT… none of us will really know until those first people start posting that their letters arrived!

Crossing my fingers that everyone gets good news! And soon!!!

if, as stevenf posted, the letters were sent out this morning, would they get to the bay area by tomorrow or the day after? the wait is killing me!

teaberry - possible but not probable. Plan on the day after then if by some chance it arrives tomorrow - you will be pleasantly surprised!

I just remembered why the acceptance packet arrived so quickly to us - priority mail. The letter will go regular first class most likely and hit So Cal first.

If I recall correctly from previous years the scholaship notices are sent by USPS first class. The letter is in a business sized envelope.

Socal. Received. Presidential.

Super grateful for the award, although I was really hoping to get bumped up since NM pretty much guaranteed me Presidential from the get-go. My parents refuse to let me attend otherwise. Sigh. Nevertheless, I’m really happy for the opportunity to vist USC and see such an amazing school!

Good luck to the rest of you! (:

^I’m in the same situation!

Did the letter come first class mail or priority?

So excited for my son…Trustee!!! I can’t wait until he gets home to open the envelope but I ‘peaked’ through the window and could see wording that said “We look forward to seeing you at the Trustee Scholars session during Welcome Week in August”. This is going to be a tough decision for him if he doesn’t get any financial aid from Stanford. Congrats to all others. And it came first class mail NOFOMOM. We’re in SoCal.

Finally, the wait is over! Now just one more day until the rest of the decisions arrive (Ivies).

NOFOMOM: The letter arrived first class.

smilldeb: Congratulations on your son’s achievement! I’m super happy for you and your family.

Congrats to you all! Thanks for posting and letting the rest of us know!

so disappointed, my s got bumped down to deans. I read this rarely happens. Now I dont think USC will be a reality for him ): I dont understand why this happened bc he had a great 2 day interview and really felt he connected with the people who interviewed him. Its terrible to take money away after it is inferred.

phuynh94 - congrats to you too!

dhtmiller - sorry to hear your son was bumped down but do realize they did say upfront that only about 1/2 those invited to interview will receive the trustee or presidential awards. We never considered my son’s invitation as a trustee scholar to be any more than a dean’s scholarship with the hope that he would be one of the lucky ones who didn’t get bumped down a notch or two. It was definitely never ‘inferred’. I don’t think getting bumped down is ‘rare’.

went from trustee’s to directors (4000). Yikes. It felt my best interview out of a string of good interviews in my opinion (rice trustee, berkeley regents, etc). I honestly cant think of the reasoning that I would be bumped down. Consequently, I cannot afford to attend. Congratulations to all those who received the scholarship they were aiming for. Truly a great accomplishment. Fight on.

Congrats smilldeb and phuynh94! Congrats to dhtmiller, too. Getting the dean’s is better than 75% of other admits, and 93% of all who applied to USC. Still, I totally understand the disappointment.

As smilldeb said, an invitation to interview for a top scholarship is the finalist stage. Exciting, but it’s just the next round. Not everyone gets the news they hope for, though. And many really have other universities ahead of USC on their dream list, so for those, this isn’t so bad.

Wishing better news for everyone who has yet to hear.
