try hards during finals week, really?

Can I rant please?

So it is finals week, obviously, and it's getting a little crazy here and there, but I am just annoyed at this point! I'm not talking about the part where you have to put on your thinking cap, pull all-nighters, and knock back a few red bulls - it's more dramatic than that. Let me explain. While I was getting ready to leave the library this morning, I saw a girl crying - like legit - bawling her eyes out. I stop to ask if she was okay and her response? "I'm freaking out about my final in 30 minutes because I don't want to get a B!" WOW. I understand that you want to do well, but a B is not the end of the world! That is just one example of a try hard. The other type involves someone who is CONSTANTLY asking redundant, irrelevant, "its on the syllabus" kind of questions in class! WHY, OH WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS? I don't understand these folks! How much clarity do you need? Can anyone else relate?! LOL!

Finals week, and a tad bit annoyed!

P.S
I am not a hater by any chance. I respect those who work hard and get excited about others wanting to do well during their undergraduate career, but when you find yourself becoming obsessive, AND excessive about your GPA all day every day, c'mon now! REALLY? TRY HARDS FTW LOL!

Haha, I totally get what you’re saying. Finals week is this week for me too and I’m home already because I finished finals on Monday. I didn’t even study for any of them. Really, it’s because most of my finals were papers or presentations and the exams I just knew enough already and did well enough in the classes that it didn’t really matter. My friends kept beating up on me all weekend because I was partying and they were studying… for 48 hours straight! So I see where you’re coming from!

Ha, I go to W&M. The study culture here is intense. People sleep at the library and regularly study for 12 hours straight or more. I mean, I study quite a bit, but it’s usually over the course of several days (maybe 5-6 hours max or as little as two, depending on the amount of content for the class), and I take breaks every few hours.

Yeah, many people do have breakdowns during the exam period; the college is renown for being exceptionally difficult. I almost had one last night, actually. I had a group final for one my classes (worth 35% instead of 20% because the professor cancelled an individual project at the last second). It was awful; we had three hours to do at list six worth of good work. Which was the point. It was supposed to be a “pressure cooker.” The entire year, I’ve had to work with this same group, and I have to redo about 60-80% of all their work because it’s…well, poor. Of course, I didn’t have time to do that in this exam, so…yeah. I’m just praying we scored over an 80. That’s all I need for an A.

In other words, I understand the stress perfectly. I know some people don’t stress that much, but at my college, nearly everyone (including myself) obsesses about maintaining a good GPA, and finals are almost always make it or break situations. So while you do have some people that go overboard, I really wouldn’t put that much blame on them.

I’m not sure how much someone is concerned with their academics should annoy you. It may seem extreme to you but they are not you, why can they not handle it in their own way without your judgement?

Dude, I was there. I really screwed up my first semester. I’ll be lucky if I’m still in the school in January.

I used to be stressed out but now it’s just like, I want to get it over with. I wanna go home and lick my wounds.

A B can seem like the end of the world if you have to maintain a certain GPA for something (such as a scholarship).

Thank god I didn’t go to w&m…fratin hard at uva while coasting on a 3.5
