TSocash- I received a letter in the mail today granting me a $14,000 Bausch & Lomb Scholarship which I am extremely excited about! However, I was wondering if Renaissance Scholarship nominees are notified in the same letter. I am fully not expecting a nomination, but I just wanted to know if I would have found out already whether or not I was nominated. Thank you!

I hope to slay multiple “merit” dragons right here, right now!

OK… First and foremost, not everyone will be awarded a merit scholarship. If you are awarded a merit scholarship (Rochester will only give out 1 scholarship maximum per applicant) you should receive it approximately 7 business days after your admit letter. If you applied for need-based financial aid, you should receive that packet 10 business days after you received your admit letter.

Who is awarded merit scholarships? It is based on a holistic review of your entire application, and this site does an excellent job at explaining the process: [University of Rochester : Financial Aid](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/financial/undergrads/scholarships.shtm)

The Renaissance Scholarship (RENS) is our most prestigious award, and you shouldn’t waste time waiting at the mailbox for a letter, because only ~60 invitations are being sent out against a pool of 14,000+ applicants. This means that you have around a .4% chance of receiving this invitation. These invitations are being mailed very soon. There will be no indication of a RENS invite in the first merit letter. May the odds be ever in your favor!

For National Merit Finalists who select the University of Rochester as your 1st choice school (make this selection before the end of May please), you will receive the $17,000 Wilder Scholarship. This scholarship is renewable over all 4 years, as are all Rochester merit scholarships.

If you are in contention for 2 different Rochester scholarships, we will not “stack” them. Instead, you will always get the scholarship with the higher dollar amount. Therefore, if you already got a UR scholarship greater that $17,000/yr, and then you discover that you have become a National Merit Finalist, you will only receive the larger scholarship.

I hope this helps!

Haha thank you so much for your quick response! I kind of wish that I was already informed that I haven’t received an invite, because now this gives me unwarranted and unrealistic hope!

Tyler - thanks for the link. However, it only gives examples using SAT scores. What if ACT scores were submitted?

Thanks.

Here’s the 2011 SAT-ACT Concordance Tables

http://professionals.collegeboard.com/profdownload/act-sat-concordance-tables.pdf

Using this you’ll be able to calculate what your approx. SAT score would be based upon your ACT.

Congrats Shaq395! And you were worried about your acceptance in the first place?! hahah.

I hope I’m receiving similar money; It will be a make or break for me with a school that I love so much.
