Tufts ED Senior year grades

Will Tufts request first quarter senior year grades for ED? The marking quarter didn't end by the Nov 1st deadline, but it ends sometime next week. I'm not very confident about my first quarter grades, I've had a problem with one of my classes especially (not because it's difficult, but because of a reason that's not an excuse anyway) and I think that second quarter I will do MUCH better. But does Tufts call the schoolto find out first quarter grades? My friend applied EA to Emerson and the school emailed her for her first quarter grades and when she told them we didn't have them yet, they were fine.

Yeah, I was wondering about this too; I won’t have any official grades until after December 15th.

My daughter sent her first quarter grades to the regional representative. She just emailed him and he sent her back a polite email saying he would add to her file.

I’m also wondering how important 1st marking period/1st semester grades are in the ED process (both 1 and 2). Do they have much impact? Will they hurt if they are not good?

They can only help. It’s good to show you aren’t slacking off.

This is untrue. Your senior year grades matter quite a bit. Please, please, please continue working at a level in your senior year that will help you build the case for admittance. If your grades drop noticeably in Q1 (for ED) or at the end of your first semester (for RD or ED2), you put up a serious hurdle for yourself.

Dan, since midyear grades aren’t out until practically February, does that mean if we’re applying RD our apps won’t be looked at until around then?

My TAMS said that I was missing the first term grading report, and I guess my high school doesn’t send those to universities. So when I called the admissions office they said that “estimated grades” for the end of this semester can take the place of the first term grades. (Plus the final semester grades when they’re available.)

I plan on having my counselor estimate what my grades will be for when the semester ends. At least I think that’s what Tufts means by estimated grades…

@JusPhys - We’ll do our review even without your MYs, but before we make a final decision we’d need to see your MYs. There are times when a decision gets reversed (in the good way or in the bad way) because of MY grades.

@Blueviking - Basically, that’s right for schools that don’t create official first quarter grades.

Thanks Dan!
